Step 1. Update to the 3.1.3 firmware if needed.
Step 2. Download Spirit.
Step 3. Plug in iPod.
Step 4. Double click spirit.
Step 5. Press jailbreak.

1. Right Click on Spirit
2. Click properties

3. Click Compatibility

4. Run this program in compatibility mode CHOOSE windows 95

Well depends what your doing.
Cydia makes your ipod use more memory so it runs the battery down quicker.

Thats why you get battery doctor pro.
