your best bet would be buying a gevey sim

The unlock he did was very probably tethered, meaning if you turn it off you have to plug it into your computer to turn it back on, or run the unlock again to get it to turn back on. Your best bet is, like jonnyman said, get a Gevey SIM, or you could restore your iPhone and try some of the other unlocking programs available on the internet. See if you can find one which is non-tethered so you can still turn your phone off fine.
