When you connecting in the multiplayer hold the PS button 5seconds so the controller screen can pop up then back to multiplayer then it should normally work.

hi there what to do is start the game turn your router of and then on and go to multi-player but don't select online once u are connected sign in and go to split screen choose the first class and kill your self then press start and leave game once u select that the sub menu wont come up asking you are you sure you want to leave? So press up and then press x and you'll leave the game then select online and whala!! No more downloading game settings!1

Do this, Erase COD4's game data utility, once you do that start cod4 it will ask you to download patch, once you do that go play online, just try and let me know if it works, i had same problem and thats what i did. just give it a try.
