I use a scuf and Astros myself, a scuf makes it easier to jump and shoot at the same time assets as easier panic knifing, I'm to used to a scuf now I wouldn't buy a regular ps controller now,
As for my handset its great in search without awareness, i still use awareness and dead silence so i dont hear my own footsteps but in pubs I use awareness so I can hear footsteps we all no how annoying ghost is, this way I can hear the guy coming up on me

I have Trittons and turtlebeaches and I barely use them. I don't really need them, my speakers are pretty good, and I just prefer it wothout them.
I still play well and come top most games.
As for controllers, I used a basic xbox controller for months and only bought my scuf last month.
They aren't really much of an advantage, you can do just as well without them.

I play GB a lot and you do not need a scuf. I have a lot of experience.
