The general consensus is that Infinity Ward tried to change too much and to cater to casual players, while not having enough time to thoroughly test every new addition. That is not to detract from their success – 90% of the game is a highly polished and enjoyable experience, but it is that 10% of annoyances which players notice the most.

The main issues come with weapon and class balance. Of course, we’re referring to the multiplayer element of the game here. The single player had a wacky storyline but the experience itself didn’t have any major issues.

1. The Marathon/Lightweight/Commando/Tactical Knife combination
The Problem

While fourzerotwo, IW’s Creative Strategist, reckons that running around stabbing people is just another playstyle, we beg to differ. Vahn, the lead multiplayer designer at Treyarch, reckons there’s a fundamental problem with Commando:

"I have this theory that an extended melee range perk is poor design.

It’s fun to knife people. It’s very satisfying.

However, I think if you making something so awesome that the other player doesn’t have equal opportunity or awareness of your tactical advantage and thus it becomes un-fun for them … it’s not very good design.

When facing down a guy with a Bayonet, you could at least see the guy had a knife on the end of his gun. You were aware that he could try to attack you from range. The tuning was also different. The range was less than Commando Pro, and the recovery a lot slower.

There are few people who can say they’ve never been frustrated by these speedy gonzalez types, so this is something which Treyarch need to look at.

The Fix

Remove either Lightweight or Marathon – there’s no reason to have two running perks in the game. Either remove Commando or replace it with a tweaked implementation of the bayonet. Tactical Knifes are unlikely to return given the supposed era of Call of Duty 7.
2. M203 Grenade Launcher/Danger Close/One Man Army
The Problem

Lazy players can post up in a building at the back of the map, protect their flanks with claymores and proceed to rain down an infinite supply of increased-power grenades on enemy players. The ease of aiming with a grenade launcher when combined with the power boost of the Danger Close perk and the ability to resupply ammo through One Man Army made for a lethal combination. Any player who has been on the receiving end of this class will tell you that it is no fun whatsoever.
The Fix

Make grenade launchers use up the first perk, as in Call of Duty 4 and World at War, and give them a difficulty boost. One Man Army then couldn’t be used with this set-up and would return to its original purpose – changing classes on the fly. Danger Close is a necessary evil – just as players want to be protected from explosions à la the Blast Shield, so players want to give their explosions a bit more kick.

3. Camping for killstreaks
The Problem

The enticing promise of a death-raining AC130 leads players to lie in a shady corner, gun aimed at the doorway in order to get those last few kills. What’s more, the 25 killstreak Tactical Nuke can effectively be achieved off a 7 killstreak, as kills from the Harriers lead to the 11 killstreak Chopper Gunner or AC130 which, with any luck, brings the player at least 10 kills.
The Fix

Vahn has already stated that killstreaks may not contribute to further killstreaks in Call of Duty 7, which would mean players actually have to go out and get the kills they need. He’s also said that Treyarch aren’t fans of a game-ending killstreak. In terms of preventing camping, the game needs to encourage aggressive play with more health/less powerful guns than Modern Warfare 2 so that players can run in the open without as much fear of being gunned down.

For the most part, I can agree to those.

Speed perks: This is an addicting style, once you use them, its hard to go back to normal play, because you feel like your walking. This is why you see level 10/70 guys still using it.
Needs fixed

Grenade launchers: OMG what can you say. There are some who are very tatical about this, but there are more who just go on a wing and a prayer. I would say fix it, but keep it. What i mean is, only allow one or two people per team to be equipped with it, this in return makes working with that user more tactical.

Kill streaks: Not to much of a problem here, but it seems the only reason not to have them is because of campers, thats so lame, its not that at all. Its the guys boosting to get these thats the problem.

In general overview: how about a game where we have no perks at all, just guns and attachments. This forces you to use skill, rather than get the no skill cheap kill.
I have tried all of these different combinations and its an insult to use a perk thats un-realistic, mind you it is a game, so using whatever you want is your right. Just like runners and gunners hate campers, so it is the opposite as well.

I like the game, and yes i do wish some perks were not in there, but then if they were not, my k/d would be through the roof. Im a methodical player who moves to an area to take the best spots on a map, i then work that area from several locations and keep the enemy out of it. I get accused of camping, but i can tell you if you followed me you will see im not in the same spot , just the same area. I will move to the nxt location if the games dictates. I lover run n gunners, these players just run into the open like its ok, and down they go. I play it as real a you can get, team up with some guys, throw a flash thru a door, send in two players, and clear the bulding. Now come and take away from us, thats the game.

I had a guy one night go 20-28 in a map, I asked why are u getting killed so much, he replies, its not how many times you die, its about how many kills you get....lmao
If everyone on your team goes 10-5, I think you win...lol If everyone goes 8-9 or anything like that uhmmm you lose. Object: get kills but dont die so much !!!!

I have faith in Treyarch im sure they will fix all these, remember the only problem with WAW was the over powered MP40

- Speed Perks should be taken out Completely

- Still have Noob-Tubes but Make the Option to have a Secondary Thumper or Rockets , Take up the Perk 1 slot. Also still keep scavanger but Make it so you can only re-supply Ammo and hand Grenades (No Rocket propelled grenades or Rockets)

-As for Campers I would suggest not having a Game ending KS i.e Nuke, as this is what many people camped too attain.

-Commando should be either taken out of gameplay or have reduced range and longer recovery time.

-I like the Guys idea above of having sort of like a barebones mode with no KS or Perks.

good thread vaild points in there but really Perks=Unbalanced gameplay the only thing that should affect guns is how early or how late you unlock them the guns you start with should suck so it makes you want to keep leveling and get those great guns instead of everyone running around with the same 2 guns the Fama's and ump45 like in MW2 of the m16,ak,Mp5 in Mw whats the point of all the guns if all you want to use is the guns you start b/c they are better then the guns you unlock later

now onto the killstreaks you should be able to have full control and go where ever you want shoot where you want untill you get shot down b/c the way it is now everyon hides in a building till the streaks go away thats dumb if they never go away it makes people shoot them down and work together as a team to do it

the bottom line is COD's arnt made to have people work together as a team i just want to play a game type where everyone is pretty much forced to work together and win not camp out killstreaks after MW2 im pretty much done with COD right now im play BFBC2 i will be gettin Reach and MOH and skipping out on BO's until i hear that its a good game and i should get it

Lets keep marathon/liteweight thus encoursges ppl to stop camping... U missed two problems heartbeats and lagg,deginatly take out commando ! Also take out heartbeats and ninja and make a new perk no fall damage/silentfootsteps... Fix host migration were it disconnects evry1

i agree completely with replacing perk 1 for grenade launchers, because they are incredibly easy to use. it worked good on WaW and cod4. Launchers should do this is as well so people don't just use something like the thumper.

Commando should be removed full stop, if you want extra knifing range or speed you should have to use an attachment, i.e. bayonet/ tactical knife.

Marathon should be removed, lightweight is fine. Marathon ruins objective games by removing the tactical side of it( clearing out the objectives by killing and then capturing with team mates) with marathon people are just constantly at the objectives a few seconds after spawn, especially with lightweight.
Extreme conditioning was perfect why change it?

I don't think perks should affect bullet damage at all, they should be more of a passive bonus like cold blooded, danger close is a bearable perk so long as they cannot refill launchers.
If they do have stopping power then there should be a way to counter it, in other words juggernaut.

snipers should always 1 hit kill regardless of stopping power everywhere apart from the limbs, juggernaut would affect this and make it a 2 hit kill on the stomach area up to the chest, so stopping power would still be useful on snipers if you were against some juggernaut users.

Killstreaks are fine except there should not be a game-ending streak, i like the custom killstreaks some of them need to be adjusted though because half of them are useless and underpowered.
Such as the stealth bomber(hmm SB or pave low? tough choice..) same with the precision airstrike and EMP. counter-uav should have been a 3 killstreak as well. because it doesn't compare to a care package.

I think they could do with alot more gun customisation as well, you should be able to add various attachments that slightly affect your guns performance in certain areas, regardless of perks.

I also think there should be more larger maps, like fuel, derail, outskirts, seelow(LOVED seelow) etc because they make for great games with many different tactical approaches, they also make sniping a viable tactic again, for the real snipers out there(not Quickscopers)

Wasn't that good?? It's better than any of the other CoD's. I think people will be disapointed by the Black Ops game when compared to MW2.

Have to say I disagree with you on this one. I mean, I just do not remember getting so mad while playing any of the other CoD games. MW was awesome. M16 was a bit overpowered and juggernaut could be a bit annoying, but bedsides those two things, the game really did not have any other major flaws. Of course, W@W had the infamous MP40 and the "automatic 35-0" tanks, but, again, the overall experience was a positive one. MW2, on the other hand, just infuriates me almost every time I play it. It's intentionally designed for the less-skilled player, having things like deathstreaks, OMA, scavenger pro, commando, over-powered guns, etc. I'm not mad at IW or anything, its just sometimes I wonder how they can even play their own game....

Graphically, yea, MW2 is better. Unfortunately, it falls short of both MW and W@W in terms of gun balance, maps, killstreaks and overall gameplay
