Heres the deal.
v1.02 .self file contains a number called Client Version (49). This number gets sent to the server and the server matches every client that is online using that Client Version.
Example :
A Client Version 49 CANNOT be matched (connect) to a Client Version 50 (Latest)
There is no v1.02 server. The server is simply handles all the clients and matches each client up.
The playlist, this is simply data sent from the server. This includes DVAR's and the minor Client Version (numbers after the hard coded Client Version, e.g: 50.19.30.6) and other data.
Well in this case, we'd have to "hacK" the server. Is that what you trying to say? i mean in order for it to send the modifed DVARs. else, your not using DVARs.
