gamestop now checks by truning it on and putting in a copy of black ops and trying to go online there should be a notice now at the counter atlest there is by the one by me and after this so called sony ban wave they have to check ALL PS3s out.The ppl that work at the game stop by my house said the do to ppl turning in banned ps3 and xbox360 that the company is going to change the rules about system trade ins to you must be 18 years old and they take a copy of your driver license no license no trade in..

Why don't you just go on Craigslist or Ebay, put the PS3 up for sell on either website, and make sure you put, the PS3 is in good condition but it can't play Black Ops...Some one will buy it. And they will pay you much more than Gamestop would. Don't try to **** somebody over just so you can play Black Ops again.

Besides I'm sure Gamestop knows about this issue, so all they'd have to do is test Black Ops on it in store to see it's banned.

If you can still take back the system under warranty you are fine. If you put it in a new box and take it back saying it's brand new, that's illegal. You can go to jail and you'll be fined for more than both systems. Smart move right?

YOu better +Rep me for this. My ps3 got banned.... bought it from gamestop 10 months ago... I called walmart and said hey... I lost my reciept and i just bought this like 3 weeks ago and i cant play online. They will not give you cash but what they will do is do a direct exchange and you can get a brand new one. I know this works because i have done it.. Traded 10 month old banned ps3 for brand new xbox 360 at walmart. Dont worry about the whole walmart scans it at the door because all the barcodes are the same its just what the store has it programmed to charge.

OP go ahead and try that if you want but they can find out. Better to be safe than sorry? 99% sure they keep a copy of everything system sold and they can say well hey, this one isn't from this store, probably won't tell you until they make the trade and then sue you.

as long as the barcode registeres all it does is make a price sticker.. they are all the same... they come from the same company... SONY. I have already done it.... thats how i got my xbox.. it works.. no trouble
