I tried changing the HDD to the PS3 that is working perfectly (3.50) and it also says to update to 3.50 or the PS3 can't start. All I need is to get the mw2 patch into the PS3 that has FW 3.41

No. Ever has been way to "downgrade your firmware" by data transfer. And never will...

Sony thought about this when they made the console.

You can transfer Lower to Higher

But Not Higher to Lower.

Main reason though is. The FW is flashed on the nand chip. So. no matter what hdd you put on there the PS3 has the 3.5 on it. So the PS3 tells the system hey, we need to add this fw to the hdd.

As far as the Patch. Just start the game. you will be able to download it. you don't have to be on PSN to download the patch.

make sure you have internet connection on the 3.41 ps3
DO NOT CONNECT TO PSN OR TRY TO !!
put in mw2 disc & try to start, it should tell you there's a new patch, even though you're not signed in.. did this for mw2 several times & also worked with WaW so i think the game updates works without psn

Altho you can Go from 3.41 to a 3.50 AND transfer your modded 3.41 and put it on your 3.50 and the patch will transfer with the data transfer.

Yeah, I had to do the same, I went out and bought a new PS3. They still have older FW on it. The 160gb one I bought had 3.40 on it.

If I were to buy a ps3 with 3.40 firmware, could I update it to 3.41 with a usb, or does the usb update only update to the latest version. I would still be going from a lower firmware to a higher one, just not the highest. is this possible?

You can most defently update with USB to 3.41. That is what I did

You don't have to update to get the MW2 patch, just don't sign in and start up MW2 and it will ask you to download it.

From there you can mod the patch and transfer the modded patch from your 3.41 PS3 to your 3.50 PS3 and host modded lobbies.

The best part is that you can change which patch you want to use at any time!
