I would like to learn how to use patches hack prestiges and unlocks, and hacking mw2/ps3 as a whole.
I do have 2 PS3’s, but they are both on the latest update.

nope you can't go onlinew with FW that's why you need data transfer. Stop your progress until tomorrow. I send you links for hacks. Stop what you are doing on old ps3. If your updating finish it then continue tomorrow. Sorry got to wake up early.

ok so after I install the hacked FW
will it have a FTP thing of its own?
also after what files to i have to data transfer?

So I've researched some and these are the steps that I've summed up.

1. Update 3.41FW to 3.55
2. Update 3.55FW to kmeaw's 3.55CFW
3. Download 3.72FW spoofer, put on USB
4. Turn off internet connection on 3.72FW PS3.
5. Go on PS3 and install package files and install the .pkg file
6. Start the FTP thing on the PS3 (which I do not know how to get, does it come with the spoofer thing?)
7. Go on FileZilla on my PC, type in the IP from the FTP thing on the PS3 into the Host on FileZilla and connect.
8. Go to PS3, then BLES00683 folder, then USRDR folder, replace my patch from MW2 with a hacked patch(which I need, could you send me one?)
9. Press X on the FTP thing.
10. (on 3.55FW PS3) Go to System Settings > Data Transfer Utility, press OK
11. Then click on the first option, press No, then OK, then I should be on a loading screen.
12. (on 3.72FW PS3) Go to System Settings > Data Transfer Utility, click OK, and then click the second option.
13. Should be on loading screen again, and then will automatically format PS3, then PS3 will restart and then will start the Data Transfer.
14. When Data Transfer is finished and the 3.72FW PS3 has restarted, then hold power button on 3.55FW PS3 until light goes red.
15. Turn Internet Connection back on on 3.72FW PS3, sign in onto PSN.
16. Go on MW2 private match and patch should work.

Questions:
Did I miss anything or get anything wrong?
How do I get the FTP thing that connects to FileZilla?
Where do I find a patch for MW2? (could you send me one?)
Is there a way to remove the patch so I can host a regular private match without changing it back on the 3.55FW PS3 and then data transferring all over again?

your correct. You go on google search and download 2 things
Blackbox FTP and filezilla client. Install filezilla client on computer and start. Put blackbox on usb go to usb put ftp file on it no folder rename it blackboxftpI if it doesn't then go to install package files
install it. Start it the address it shows is your ps3 address then put it in filezilla at top where it says host. Post any questions.

You said "put ftp file on it" what ftp file?
