We delete our MW2 (or what ever game) patches and use wireshark or ettercap or something to sniff out how S0ny send patches to our PS3s, then from there we could use a proxy method like EM does with his patch blocker to forward all requests to/from S0ny's boxes to a file on our localhost to download the patch to our PS3s and whola?


If anyone who knows the servers like the back of their hand can you contact me if this is possible because we could use PHP for the proxy server, and I'm quite good with PHP.

This does only work if you can repackage the original mw2 patch.

This actually does work, you have to put together a mw2 pkg file with your patch in it and replace the one sony is sending. Unfortunately it still only works on 3.55 because we can't compress a pkg for 3.6+.

does sony really bother to resign all their updates everytime a new firmware comes out though?
i wonder what the ps3 would do if it received the update with an older pkg =\

also, if sony does, couldnt someone just compare the official patch before and after a firmware update to see what changes?

No. You think it's that simple, but it's not. The key is used for encryption and decryption. You can't just take a .pkg from 3.55, take on from 3.73 and be like, "Oh, that's what changed". The way to find the key is to either use a kit of tools for the Linux OS or use a modified Teensy+ or ProgSkeet, send quick random pulses to the PS3 to force it to dump the information.

Right now, we have the keys to decrypt retail pkg files. The only encryption keys we have are for 3.55. We can take a pkg from 3.6+ and decrypt it but it can't be re-encrypted to install on 3.6+.

Meh. Honestly it is so much easier just buying a jailbroken PS3.
