To and fro the island.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Due to the mass amount of threads and posts asking about whether or not they're going to get banned, I figured I'd make this thread to basically try and sum it all up for people that have yet to find out.

No one knows for sure. The major reason discussion concerning Playstation Network banning increased is because of a simple Twitter conversation between someone and '402', the community manager of Infinity Ward, Robert Bowling. Bowling did hint that something was going to be done, in particularly the Prestige 10 Hack.

Some people seem to think that nothing is going to be done about this, and that is was merely a bluff by Bowling in hope to decrease the hacker population on Modern Warfare 2. Some people argue that Infinity Ward couldn't possibly ban everyone that uses this hack, for that would require them to basically scan the leaderboard from bottom to top. Some people have come to the conclusion that only those with extremely high, and unfathomable stats, despite their play time, will be reset ( and possibly banned from MW2 on that account ).

Others are taking this conversation more seriously, fearing that bannings are going to begin, and that everyone who carried out the hack will be subject to the consequences. I've done some looking around, and some people argue that Infinity Ward may have a system or process in which they can identify hackers. There have also been other points mentioned in which are needless to really mention due to being rather vague.

Again, no one really knows which of the above it could be. So, if you're planning on asking the question: "Will I get banned?", merely consider both sides of this, and deem for yourself as to which you believe.

My personal philosophy is that the best course is likely to de-prestige. Chances of getting kicked off the leaderboards, and Modern Warfare 2 for that matter, will be greatly decreased if you are a lower prestige. If you're still worried, consider your days played, and go to a prestige in which you think looks legit.

I hope this serves as a somewhat explanation if you're still worried. If you're still on ends, you can always simply wait until action is / is not carried out and something is concluded or confirmed until making your move.

Right now, I'm staying 10th prestige. If banning is confirmed though, I'll de prestige to 3rd prestige

xVii - as if they're going to allow you to deprestige... they'll patch it and then look to ban people or at least that's my guess. I don't think they'll end up banning anyways as I stated in my other post.

Seriously, hackers will find another way... thats the job. IW job is to patch 'em.

It isn't necessarily their job. Actions taken against hackers can make or break a developer's reputation. Think about it:

A developer makes a long awaited game. People enjoy it for awhile, and then, the inevitable: Hacks begin to infiltrate the game and leaderboards. Nothing is done in response to these glitches or hacks, and furthermore showing said developer to be an inactive one. I think that the more Infinity Ward does to get rid of hackers, despite whether I want them to or not, the better their future titles will do. Quite a few people are looking for a legit experience. And hackers such as many people on this community only get further incentive to try and tamper when they know a developer is pronounced to be great at removing hacks.

You're skipping over other possibilities. 402, the community manager Robert Bowling is a member of these forums, if you haven't seen him around. He's not an idiot, not by a long shot. Announcing that they were going to be banning members for using a hack would only be giving them time to 'hide' from the 'BanHammer'. Sure, announcing it earlier would give people time to reverse their actions, furthermore cleaning the leaderboard a bit without Infinity Ward having to do anything. However that would also give hackers time to develop more hacks to bypass what's on the way.

Just don't want to see you get banned before you have the chance. If I were you, I'd lay low until the 'BanHammer', whether or not it does or does not do anything, passes. Once it does, we can all figure out what to do from there. Ultimately it's your choice, of course. Just giving you my two cents.

Yes making money is their primary objective. However who's going to continuously buy from a developer in which does nothing about hacks and glitches? I'm friends with many anti-hack players, and when they notice hacks / glitches are being used, it's a real turn off for them. The less Infinity Ward does, the greater the possibility that Modern Warfare 2's successor will not be given the praise it's predecessor was.

true schaffinm, but I'm still skeptical. Not too many banned on COD4 or COD5 for their glitching and hacking. I know COD5 was a different developer, but same concept. it's a little too labor intensive to go through and start the ban hammer.

Agreed. For Infinity Ward to go through all of the leaderboards and [without error] ban each and every hacker would be an amazing achievement. Not one that I can say is necessarily worth it, either. I think more legit players would simply like to see some attempt at making sure, in the future, that such hacks cannot continue. Whether it be in Modern Warfare 2 or future titles of Infinity Ward, I think they'd be very satisfied. I am, in short, satisfied to see that Infinity Ward is taking action against hacking. Lets just hope that they learn from their mistakes with this title.

The most IW could do is ban your MW2 disc, they do not have the power to ban a console. Sony on the other hand could ban the account, worst case perm ban the account. I've never heard of Sony MAC banning a console, even in something as serious as NDA breach which I got a perm account ban on.

Don't get all worked up over what may or may not happen. What will happen will happen.

They can ban your account from the Modern Warfare 2 servers as well I suppose. However it is needless to say that they cannot do anything with multiple accounts. That is completely in the Playstation Network's hand. Luckily for hackers, the Playstation Network is a lot less likely to throw down the 'BanHammer' anytime soon as opposed to Xbox Live. This is one of things I both envy and despise of Xbox Live.
