he deleted his game data utility and the save data, yet he still gets the error.

anyone else get this or know how to fix it

It could be his blu-ray drive, has he tried another game? Older ps3s blu-ray drives tend too die after a long time

his ps3 aint that old

Tell him too try a different game. His blu-ray could still be slowly dieing. Or iw may need to patch the game again

Its probably a region fault.

holland. i told him to format his ps3, now the game works but half way through the ps3 freezes now

Did you try another disk of MW3?

new games may stop reading because laser is dieing, older games may still work. try laying the console flat and hold the front up at an angle then put the disc in and see if it will load. if it does you can lay the console back down again
