I can confirm certainly on PS3 that best ping or upload speed has **** all to do with who it's host on PS3 patch 1.3. I run an online business and we have a 1GB line both directions with a 5ms ping any where in Europe I have tested MW3 on the PS3 and in terms of lag/framerate issues it makes no difference. And this PS3 was in the DMZ with it's own dedicated IP and subject to no traffic shaping. My guess is it has all to do with the lag compensation code they have in place.

My home connection is 40 down 10 up, with 8 ms ping, if I reduce my upload speed during the lobby using my own methods not a lag switch and when the game starts increase the upload speed the effects are huge, hit detection is spot on and no lag/ frame rate issues.

My advice to anybody who wants to play around with their network speeds at a certain time is to use NetTools 5 and use the feature called "Packet Generator" and flood your own router while in the lobby, this in effect will give the impression to MW3 or any other COD game for that matter that you have a slower upload speed and ping t than you actually have and thus will over compensate hit detection etc. Obviously as soon as the game starts stop flooding your router. Another way is to upload a video to you tube while in the lobby this will give the same effect.

Warning you need to know what you are doing with NetTools 5 and it will also fail a virus check as it has it's own built in Trojans that you can deploy. Only people with networking experience should try this. I might make a video tutorial if there's enough interest.

PLEASE DO NOT DOWNLOAD NET TOOLS 5 UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND IT WILL SHOW AS A VIRUS WHEN YOU INSTALL IT. THIS IS TO BE EXPECTED AS WHAT IT IS INSTALLING ARE HACKING TOOLS WHICH IN THEIR OWN DEFINITION ARE VIRUS/TOJANS. A MOD HAS ALREADY BLOCKED ONE POST ABOUT IS DUE TO CAUTION. (iT WAS MY POST) SO FOR THE TIME BEING PLEASED DON'T DOWNLOAD. GAME HACKING IS VERY DIFFERENT FROM NETWORK HACKING DO NOT MESS AROUND WITH THIS TOOL IF YOUR CLUESLESS, THIS IS ALSO NOT A LAG SWITCH LIKE SOME NOOBS HAVE SUGGESTED. i AM POSTING THIS RESPONSE TO COMPILE WITH THE FORUM RULES.

Do a barrel roll!
You need not care about nat type. you need port forwarding.
after this you get nat type 1 or 2( if you use Router, your nat type is 2)

Mainly, because your internet is weak becuase of the location you are living in... but you should take advantage of being host!

I think someone lied to you, when your downloading torrents it Drains the Speed. It's like uploading a Big youtube video and trying to play, your going to lag.

While you should do this it will not actually make any difference in the fight against lag. The disadvantage of having a closed NAT is that you will only play against others with a closed NAT (unless ina party and you will be at a distinct disadvantage.) About 80% on most modern routers will have UpNp on as default, this basically means that the ports will be automatically opened for you and when you finish the game they will be closed. A few ISP's for some reason supply routers with UpNp off make sure it's on.

Correct, doing this during game will cause lag. Any attempt to fool MW3 matchmacking needs to be done during the lobby and also at the correct time.
