Reading this thread and a lot of peoples replies to threads on the topic of previous maps you would like to see, I have noticed a lot of people want Mw2 maps brought back, typically highrise, favela, or terminal.
Not that I wasn't a fan of the game or the maps but I don't see the attraction to wanting any of those maps to be brought back.
For me the classic maps are those which belong in COD4, the beautifully designed maps which got the majority of us started on our Call of duty career.
I'm going to be recapping what I feel makes the COD4 maps the real classics and how they compare to Mw2.
I want to know the reasons why a lot of you want so called Mw2 Classic maps bought back, and very little people have mentioned COD4.
This is a pure classic map and was really the typical map people think of when you mention COD4 (along with shipment). It was nicely layed out with good vantage points and lots of routes for you to go, it bought on some real firefights.
What is the one thing that these maps all have in common?
they all have that rigid war like design and it really felt as if you were in the middle of a battlefield. They all had a mixture of CQB and open areas, and really put you into the middle of the intense firefights.
They were not bright and colourful and really gave the atmosphere of the story this is something I really enjoyed, it gave each map a "purpose" to be in the game.
There was no real map that I believe was a poor one, except maybe Downpour.
The main difference is the time of day in the maps, there was a lot of fairly dark maps, compared to Mw2 where all the maps where set during the day.
[Multipage=Mw2]
Moving on to Mw2 these maps for me did not reach the bench mark that COD4 set. Yes the maps were good but they lost the war like purpose that COD4 originally set. A lot of maps you wonder why on earth you are even there in the first place.
Highrise was a good map set on the top of a skyscraper and was one of the best maps on the game, but for me lost the war feel, it was just a couple guys having a shoot out on a building, I don't recognize it as a key moment in the story. Yes it was something new but didn't compete for me.
Another one of my and a lot of yours favorite map. It had multiple levels and had lots of CQB and was very fast paced. You were never safe and you always had to watch your back, a fun map.
As I said a lot of the maps lost the war like purpose and the story that call of duty told. Here are just a few which I find to be pointless locations:
Okay so a lot of you will hate Terminal going into the pointless location section but I mean really, fighting in an airport? it doesn't have any war like feel to it at all and I see it as a more of a fun map, but I wouldn't class it as a classic.
Quarry is pretty self explanatory as to why it is a pointless located map.
Like I previously said on all of the maps you can see blue sky (except rundown) and are set during the day so you can't take advantage of COD4s night vision.
[multipage=Overview]
So my main points as to what I believe makes the COD 4 maps more classic is just the pure rigid war like feel to the maps. The graphics may not have been great but with some slight remastering I would like to see this feel be bought back into the call of duty series.
If you remember several COD4 maps were bought back into Mw2 DLC such as vacant and strike, but these were "too remastered". They added a lot more colour and brightness.
It all comes down to that Nostalgic feeling.
If Mw2 was your first COD then I understand why you may feel they could be classed as classic maps, but for us Call of duty Veterens I believe the classic maps and that nostalgic feeling lies in the COD4 maps.
You may just see this as a pointless rant and that I should just go play COD4 but I'm just sharing what I believe belongs in the "classic" map category.
All the CoD4 maps were great; so much variety. The cramped corners of Wetwork, the long range sniping of Bog. MW2 maps have nothing on CoD4 maps, but they weren't necessarily bad either.

Im open for your opinions and discussion points and it will be interesting to see why you chose your "classics".
I was telling my friends that the other day that Mw3 should make some maps set off in the night. I enjoyed all of the maps in CoD4 and like you said have more of a war-like feel while the newer maps are trying to take the fight 'home' in a sense.
Personally I think CoD4 maps would be awesome and much more enjoyable than Mw2. I would be just love to play on Bog and call in an Ac-130

I was just discussing with my friends the other day that Mw3 should have some maps set in the night, it would be awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed all the CoD4 maps and would want to have those put in better than Mw2 ones. Like you said, they have a more war-like feel while now they are trying to bring the fight 'home' in a sense.
It would be awesome to play on Bog and call in an AC-130 on the enemies
The variety map pack for CoD4 maps were all awesome. any of those would be cool.
The following user thanked The Clipse for this useful post:
to be honest, any classic map in mw3 would be good. I would get a sense of nostalgia on any of those maps. That's why I go back and play cod4 sometimes.
I really felt COD4 maps merged together. That might be biased as I started out COD with MW2, then got COD 4 3 months after, so I have played A LOT less cod4 then MW2.
Anyways, I feel there is a huge lack of action and movement in ALL of the COD 6-8s. Which maps stick out in your mind in B.O?
Nuketown, radiation, launch, and firing range do for me. Now what do all these maps have in common? Movement.
Nuketown - Nuclear Bomb
Radiation - Those doors close, and the conveyor
Firing range - targets move
launch - giant rocket
All of these maps would seem mediocre without the above. I mean, the novelty of all of em are movement. Movement is the key to success in FPS. I also mean movement in the background, like the constant mortars and firing that goes off in the background on many COD 4 maps.
"Pointless locations" - did you play the campaign?
Also, in my opinion none of the call of duty maps in the past few games have had any sort of "war feel" to them. If I want an authentic feeling game, I go play battlefield.
I for one hate the Mw3 maps, and maps like terminal and highrise were actually fun to play on. I'd much rather have them than the absolute crap maps in Mw3 like bootleg, downturn, and village.
While the very first CoD I had was CoD 4, I did not get into the multiplayer until CoD 5.
I think they should go ask Treyarch for some CoD 5 maps. Now, THOSE maps were so amazing, beast, amazing, did I mention amazing?
I wanna see Castle again lol. Don't you guys remember going on top of that castle and sniping lol. Now, pretty much every gun is a sniper (since guns have barely any recoil), so it'd be an OP spot lol.
