Firstly thanks to Mudkip for this thread:You must login or register to view this content.

Reading this thread and a lot of peoples replies to threads on the topic of previous maps you would like to see, I have noticed a lot of people want Mw2 maps brought back, typically highrise, favela, or terminal.
Not that I wasn't a fan of the game or the maps but I don't see the attraction to wanting any of those maps to be brought back.
For me the classic maps are those which belong in COD4, the beautifully designed maps which got the majority of us started on our Call of duty career.

I'm going to be recapping what I feel makes the COD4 maps the real classics and how they compare to Mw2.

I want to know the reasons why a lot of you want so called Mw2 Classic maps bought back, and very little people have mentioned COD4.

[Multipage=COD4]

Firstly probably the most Classic COD4 map:

This is a pure classic map and was really the typical map people think of when you mention COD4 (along with shipment). It was nicely layed out with good vantage points and lots of routes for you to go, it bought on some real firefights.

One of my Favorite maps:

Pipeline was a great map with its fairly open landscape and its end to end combat. It was a great map for both sniping and run and gun gameplay.

Just a few others which I believe make up the best classic maps off COD4:

What is the one thing that these maps all have in common?
they all have that rigid war like design and it really felt as if you were in the middle of a battlefield. They all had a mixture of CQB and open areas, and really put you into the middle of the intense firefights.
They were not bright and colourful and really gave the atmosphere of the story this is something I really enjoyed, it gave each map a "purpose" to be in the game.
There was no real map that I believe was a poor one, except maybe Downpour.
The main difference is the time of day in the maps, there was a lot of fairly dark maps, compared to Mw2 where all the maps where set during the day.

[Multipage=Mw2]

Moving on to Mw2 these maps for me did not reach the bench mark that COD4 set. Yes the maps were good but they lost the war like purpose that COD4 originally set. A lot of maps you wonder why on earth you are even there in the first place.

Highrise was a good map set on the top of a skyscraper and was one of the best maps on the game, but for me lost the war feel, it was just a couple guys having a shoot out on a building, I don't recognize it as a key moment in the story. Yes it was something new but didn't compete for me.

Another one of my and a lot of yours favorite map. It had multiple levels and had lots of CQB and was very fast paced. You were never safe and you always had to watch your back, a fun map.

As I said a lot of the maps lost the war like purpose and the story that call of duty told. Here are just a few which I find to be pointless locations:

Okay so a lot of you will hate Terminal going into the pointless location section but I mean really, fighting in an airport? it doesn't have any war like feel to it at all and I see it as a more of a fun map, but I wouldn't class it as a classic.
Quarry is pretty self explanatory as to why it is a pointless located map.
Like I previously said on all of the maps you can see blue sky (except rundown) and are set during the day so you can't take advantage of COD4s night vision.

[multipage=Overview]

So my main points as to what I believe makes the COD 4 maps more classic is just the pure rigid war like feel to the maps. The graphics may not have been great but with some slight remastering I would like to see this feel be bought back into the call of duty series.
If you remember several COD4 maps were bought back into Mw2 DLC such as vacant and strike, but these were "too remastered". They added a lot more colour and brightness.

It all comes down to that Nostalgic feeling.
If Mw2 was your first COD then I understand why you may feel they could be classed as classic maps, but for us Call of duty Veterens I believe the classic maps and that nostalgic feeling lies in the COD4 maps.

You may just see this as a pointless rant and that I should just go play COD4 but I'm just sharing what I believe belongs in the "classic" map category.

if you like the real war feeling maps then surely you would like the w@w maps. Nearly all were set in a real war type battlefield. Would be good to see some of them with better graphics and some new stuff

That's the only thing I enjoyed about WAW but MW3 is pretty fun to play except the maps are really small imo.

Personally I think CoD4 maps would be awesome and much more enjoyable than Mw2. I would be just love to play on Bog and call in an Ac-130 Smile

I was just discussing with my friends the other day that Mw3 should have some maps set in the night, it would be awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed all the CoD4 maps and would want to have those put in better than Mw2 ones. Like you said, they have a more war-like feel while now they are trying to bring the fight 'home' in a sense.
It would be awesome to play on Bog and call in an AC-130 on the enemies Smile
The variety map pack for CoD4 maps were all awesome. any of those would be cool.

With mw3 spawns on bog you wouldnt get a Ac130 :carling: 1 would spawn in front of you, one on each side, and 3 behind you.

On a serious note i don't think we should say we don't want mw2 maps because they don't have a war feel, ITS A VIDEO GAME you kill people on the internet. They brought back cod4 in mw2, we need mw2 in mw3!

Not if I'm spawn trapping they won't :carling:

Of course it's a video game, but you can't deny that CoD4's maps were more war like than Mw2, at least I think so. And I think CoD4 has more desirable maps than Mw2, I would only want a few back. Or hell, why not both Smile

I really liked Overgrown, to be honest. Vacant was/is good for pretty much ruining the other team with RPGs and SMGs, while Overgrown is a mix of sniper rifles, assault rifles and SMGs.

It would be great if they brought back a mixture, because the CoD4 maps were amazingly balanced, and the MW2 maps were very fast-paced and frantic (not balanced at all in some cases though - remember Estate?).

If I had to choose the specific maps, I'd probably say... Crash, Backlot and maybe Pipeline to mix it up a bit. From MW2 I'd say Terminal, Favela and Highrise.
