(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Is it just me, or is it that gameplay with HDMI cables tend to have more input lag than one of those old tvs with just the red-yellow-white cable outlets?

I just switched from my HDMI tv to a standard tv because I went over to a buddy's house and that was the tv he had. Apparently, I did far better than I do with HDMI, and I think (atleast its what I noticed) it's because when you push a button on HD, it lags just a tiny bit. It may not seem noticable at first, but I always found it noticable. With an HD TV, I always do like ~ 30-13 ish or something along those lines but without HD, I do like 45-5 a game. (Rough estimates, I'm not THAT good :dumbSmile

I'm not sure if it's my controller, my HDMI cable, or my HD TV, but I noticed it even on other people's tvs and I was wondering if it actually made some sort of difference. If it did, I'd probably always play with a standard tv, but I'm a bit curious with this stuff.

Anyways, just let me know if you guys experience this or not. It could just be me, I don't know.

It's with your TV. Most TV's add a lot of extra image processing before displaying the image. That's why they have a game mode.

I would suggest turning off all the extra crap like C.A.T.S., Motion Smoothing, ETC. and connecting your game console DIRECTLY to your TV (not through an AVR or an HDMI switcher) for the best performance.

It depends on how many hertz your TV can deliver, compared to what the game require. I have a 100Hertz TV, that SLIGHTLY does lag on Mw3(60Hertz) I should have went with higher hertz, but when I bought it 50Hertz was more standard for games.

Sir you have no idea... There are a few other websites which disscus which TV's have more input lag and which have less. How to test for input lag.

I noticed it ages ago but thought I could live with it. I noticed that when I play MW2 on a older TV I do at least 2-4 times better than what I did on the HDTV I was using.

Things which effect input lag

TV refresh rate
Controller delay to console , along with the controller having a delay.

Bigger TVs have a higher ms rate then smaller ones. Saying that some bigger tvs which have quite low rates but cost a bomb. Older tvs have a lower refresh then modern tvs. If your tv is standard it likely to have a lower refresh rate.
IF it LCD then it likely to have a higher refresh rate and in line with normal tvs being sold right now.
A reason why most pro players play on smaller tvs with a high refresh rate Smile

It takes some time to get used to a new tv if the newer model has a high refresh rate vs the older low one.
Not sure the effect resolution has on input lag due to the fact console games are capped.
On PC i knew people used to tone down graphics to decrease input lag but only if the screen supported it.

That based on what i know.

What i can confirm is when i play at different places (friends) on HD TVs, on every one of them i get different input lag (timescale between i move stick to what it does on the screen).

How to test input lag:

1. Hook your computer up to a CRT external monitor (it's best but you can use your laptop screen for a less accurate result)
2. Hook your tv up to your computer via HDMI cable.
3. Set your computer up to mirror display on both the monitor and the TV (make them both display the same screen).
4. Navigate on your web browser to: You must login or register to view this content.
5. Start the clock.
6. Get a camera and take a picture with both displays in the picture. (for best result use a camera with a very fast shutter speed)
7. Subtract the time being displayed on your TV from the time being displayed on your CRT monitor.
8. The difference is your input lag.

At least I can fight
Some TV's lag. Game Mode helps get rid of most of the lag

Been meaning to ask you. Can a member in yoyr party with suspect internet make the entire lobby laggy?

I normally play in parties obviously. Five of them are on west coast and me and the others midwest or east. So typically they host. When someone from west has four bars I will have three and vice versa. My issue is when one particular member is in the party the lobby is noticeably lagggy

So 1.) Why can't we all have four bars at once?
2.) Can one person make the party laggy?(he is on west coast too btw)
