i can get up on top of the rock easy, but I can't jump as far to the bounce spot on the rock. is it a strafe jump or something? do you tap jump when you hit it like that spot in airfield?

No, you don't jump when you hit the rock, just strafe and hit the right spot on the rock.

You hit the sharp part of the rock, and that's at the rocks highest point. (Strafe to it)
