Post: I have a problem with booting my computer!

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I have been having a problem with my computer for a while, and not even PC World tech team could do anything! They just replaced the PSU and told me it was stable! (clearly not!!!)

I won't go into too much detail about my spec unless it is totally necessary but here are the basics:
The original computer is a Acer Veriton M464

I have replaced the RAM for 4GB instead of the original 2 (i can find the exact part if necessary)

The on-board graphics are pretty awful so i bought an AMD Radeon HD5770

My new PSU is 650W so should be more than enough power

The problem i am having is the computer is only booting literally once every 4 or so days. When i press the power button the computer acts as if it booting for the first 1-3 seconds and the instantly powers down, it does not even make it to the BIOS screen so i cannot do checks such as temperature and power although the temperature seems to be around 24/25 Celcius.

I have tried a lot of things to resolve the problem such as:

The power supply is brand new and i know it is not faulty. (i have tried a few power supplies in the computer and get the same result)

Everything is plugged in where is should be

When no RAM is installed the MOBO beeps which suggests that there is no major fault with the motherboard (although i may be wrong)

The RAM is new and works in other machines (also occasionally when my machine boots) and so does not seem to be a problem

I have taken out my graphics card for now and so that should not be causing the problems

Very occasionally the computer does boot and will run for a good few days, but the second i shut it down (or it loses power) i cannot turn it on again. If necessary i might be able to get to the BIOS screen to run checks but it will take a while and is not practical.

If anybody has anything that could help me i would be VERY grateful and a big Thanks/+rep, and maybe some vBux will be in order Happy

Thanks Smile

Your power supply should be fine as yo said you have changed it. I'm not sure of how to check it. With the price of computer equipment now days. (They are cheap now days). I would just narrow it down, to where it has to be the motherboard (Which sounds like you did). Then just buy a new one.

Alright cheers Smile Well i suppose now i should take this as an opportunity to upgrade everything that i havent already :L Thanks for your help, shame the news wasnt better though :P

My friend that sounds like a virus. I had a virus on my laptop once that was go bad it couldn't do anything, it was the coolest virus script i've ever seen no joke. My computer on start up would sounds like its working, make a loud fan noise then shutoff. Sorry for the news but it sounds like your going to need to buy a new computer or new parts (i.e., hdd, memory, cpu, etc.) I would do anything until your 100% positive wants wrong, but it sounds like a virus to me.

I dont think it is a virus because sometimes it does boot properly and works fine until the next time i try to turn it on :L Like the other guy said i think it is the MotherBoard... Luckily i managed to scrounge enough money to buy a new one and might stretch for a new processor as well which means everything is brand new and should not be a problem Happy

No way in hell it's a Virus. The power supply shouldn't be the problem, and seeing you removed RAM and the Video card, that shouldn't be a problem either. You tried with another HDD so that's busted too. Yeah, I'm leaning towards a faulty Motherboard.
