Download DBAN.

Burn the iso onto a CD.

Start your computer > Go to BIOS (F6 or F8 during startup) > Boot from....(Choose the DBAN CD) > Then choose any form of format. The DoD one is pretty good that will wipe your Hard drive with multiple passes.

You must login or register to view this content.

What it basically does, is deletes everything (I think about 7 times).

Heres a quote from wiki "Darik's Boot and Nuke, also known as DBAN /ˈdiːbæn/, is an open source project hosted on SourceForge.[2] The program is designed to securely erase a hard disk until data is permanently removed and no longer recoverable, which is achieved by overwriting the data with pseudorandom numbers generated by Mersenne twister or ISAAC. The Gutmann method, Quick Erase, DoD Short (3 passes), and DOD 5220.22-M (7 passes) are also included as options to handle data remanence"

With this method, only the govt might have a chance at restoring your files. But it's unlikely (you can just destroy the HDD it self, if that ever happened lol)

This program will delete everything, meaning you'd have to reinstall windows from boot, reinstall drivers etc. This is much better than simple formatting, but does destroy a lot of data. So, it is up to you. If you just want to reinstall windows then google it. Good luck.
