Post: Buying A New Mac
12-11-2012, 11:19 PM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I am currently looking to buy a new Mac as my laptop at the moment is getting old, I have narrowed my search down to the 13" MacBook Pro with retina display, this costing $1900 (I'm on the Australian site) and the 13" MacBook Air with bumped up RAM to 8gb, this comes to around $1500,
so what I'm wondering is, which one am I going to get more value for money? I'm planning on using the machine for around 3-4 years, so which one would lose more value in that time?
also, heat is a big issue for me, I am constantly using my laptop on my lap, does either of these laptops have any kind of heat issue?

if someone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated! Smile

No macs are a waste of money, you could but a laptop with double the power for half the price. I have an imac with 8gb on ram and if I could go back I wouldn't have dreamed of buying it, There ok, but a serious waste of money for how bad the specs are.

Go for the retina 13inch, its more future proof and will last for a good amount of time.

Honestly don't even listen to those people who hate on MacBooks. I was contemplating an ultrabook for this Christmas, and I realized that I could pick up a cheaply build Acer with similar specs on sale for like 700$. Then I looked at the MacBook air and I realized that it was the ultrabook for me. It has outstanding build quality, with great battery life. A nice backlit keyboard, and plus the bundled applications on it made it worth the extra money on it's own.

Honestly this baseline 13" MacBook Air runs just as smooth as my desktop (specs in my signature) when I'm doing everyday tasks. I even decided to test out the CPU capabilities by using Handbrake and it worked just fine.

Portability: MBA
Power: MBP

Get the macbook pro. Not the retina display, the original one. and in the original one, you have 2 models. one weaker and one more powerful. Take the more powerful one. I got mine its about half a year i have it, it makes hardly to NO NOISE, unless you run big programs, you never hear the fan. it heats up like a normal computer but its not like unbearable.

Toke
PC Master Race
i'd get a 15in macbook pro as the retina display is well not as good as they say and its a large waste of money in my personal opinion make sure it has 8gb of ram at least
