With only two months passing since Microsoft’s official release of Windows 8, the statistical reports of its use are somewhat disappointing. Despite the massive push that Microsoft has been doing on the market in PC sales, they have yet to make a dent in the growth of sales with Windows 8. According to the statistics, Windows 8 is following the same sales and use slope as one of its predecessors, Windows Vista.

Currently, Windows 7 is leading the operating system on the market. With nearly half of the entire market using Windows 7, 44.71% as of December 29[SUP]th[/SUP] 2012, the user base is still standing strong. Even more surprisingly, more than one-third of the OS user base still uses Windows XP, 39.82% as of December 29[SUP]th[/SUP] 2012. Following the leaderboards, Vista follows at 5.7%, Mac OS X 10.6 at 2.19% and Linux at 1.25%. Windows 8 trails behind Linux at 1.09% of the entire market.

What does this mean for Windows 8? Will Windows 8 be a flop like Vista? There is talk about a new release that is supposed to occur in mid-2013, Project Blue. Project blue is much like the Vista to Windows 7 release; it’s a revised version of Windows 8, possibly to be called Windows 9. It is said that they are planning on offering it as an upgrade from Windows 8 or a new OS to purchase.

Overall, it seems as if Microsoft is trying to get back into the game and expand in order to have a universal operating system that people will enjoy and be familiar with when they switch between Desktop to Tablet. Now the question only remains, what does Microsoft have in store for us in the near future that might cause us to change our minds about moving away from Windows XP or Windows 7.

Yea, well with Windows 8 it's the metro tablet style with Windows 7 style when you switch it over. Though the start menu isn't really there.

Honestly, they should have kept the design of windows 7 and the added a switch tab to the metro. Something simple but usable.

Windows 8 is like, drag here oo I moved my mouse here by accident and now I have to figure out what I did... Too many events.

Might be good on a tablet but I haven't used it on one. Just the look of Metro makes me go off it. Doesn't look good at all IMO

Yea, I know. I tested it out for about an hour at Costco, took me about 15 minutes to adjust but I still didn't like it.

There is too much going on. I prefer something more static, motion and crap bothers me.

Me too.

I can understand Windows needs a shake up though, but the saying "If its not broke, don't fix it".

Windows 7 has been compromised and the fixes require a new OS install. They have a great UI for Windows 7, maybe offer a little bit more customization such as the metro style on desktop like how they had gadgets but do it in a way that mimics some of 3rd party programs.

I mean, the metro is a great idea for tablets and phones. It's great for the laptops that turn into tablets. Using it on a desktop no. Most people use a mouse and have their screen up on a desk not 10 inches in front of them like on the commercials.

To even use those features you have to buy a touch screen monitor, those are expensive.

Meh, I hope the rumor is true about a Windows 9. If it remains like Windows 7 but with the metro integrated on the desktop layout view, not a whole new window with the option to switch on or off; I'd go for it.

Windows 8 is a piece of ... Smile
Microsoft is becoming soft in its fall for the mobile market, unlike Apple who is merging seamlessly, Microsoft is doing it wrong.
