(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); World Cup referee Lu Jun could face punishment ranging from administrative sanction to the death penalty if found guilty in the ongoing probe into match-fixing in the domestic game.

Lu, who officiated in two matches at the 2002 World Cup finals in South Korea and Japan, was one of three referees arrested in the last week.

If he is found guilty of having accepted bribes as a public servant, the severity of his punishment will depend on the amount of money involved.

In Western countries like America or Europe an issue like this seems ridiculous to most however in other countries its very different.
If this ref was found doing this in the UK he dependant on the amount of money being dealt with would be looking a around 5 years jail time. But other countries think very differently.

If he gets the death penalty then so be it its very unlikley he will get it but then again he most likely new what the implications would be if he got caught and now he as to face up to them.

Why can't he just be fined and banned from a job in sports for life?
It's a game, it may mean a lot to people but remember it was invented for fun, and yeah cheaters suck but for crying out loud... just stand back and have a good look at it...

i agree the death penelty is way out of order for fixing a footie match or any sport for that matter, if its run by criminals then to a degree you can understand a person being killed due to money etc (im not saying its ok) but by a goverment!!!! thats F***ed!! especially as they aint a 3rd world country
