Well I'd have to disagree on that, I'm sure there were people that have said "Why worry about other planets? We're never leaving earth" and it wasn't mighty long ago that we set man on the moon.
You never know what kind of advancements we'll make in space travel, it most likely will not happened in our lifetime, but possibly one day it will happened.

To be honest, I really don't think we are the most advanced civilization in the universe, probably no where near it.
And remember, space is infinity, which means an infinite amount of planets, I'm sure there are alot of planets with living conditions like the earth has.
