You are correct here, you do need to sign up for behind the wheel lessons before you can take the drivers permit exam. However, once again, you don't have to settle for the site you are currently on, shop around, you are bound to find cheaper lessons. Just go to the yellowpages and look for driving schools in your area. Call up a few schools to check the quotes. You will also need to check what is included in the price, for example: the instructor can come and pick you up from the house or you have to travel to the driving school, will they charge you extra for your proof of enrollment, what is the current availability for scheduling your lessons. Sometimes you can't schedule a lesson for weeks if the school takes up more students than it can serve. So once again - shop around and don't be afraid to ask questions when you call up those driving schools, getting more information now can save you some headache later down the road.

That's because you didn't need to take drivers ed because you are 17 or older, if you are younger you are required to take drivers ed.

Lol there are alot of different theories on here. Here in Rhode Island you are required to take 33 hours of drivers ed, then take the super easy exam. I got a 99 as my final results. If you are over 18 you can just take the road test. You also need 50 hours with your permit, 10 of those hours must be driven at night time.

33 hours of drivers ed o.o . I just took my class online, took me about 3 days and got a 100% on my final. So i enrolled in their driver training class and once i recieve my proof of enrollement and drivers ed certificate i can go apply to get my permit.

For now, you just need to sign up and get your proof of enrollment. You are not required to take any driving lessons at this point.

You are right, but the cut off age for this rule is 17 and 1/2, not just 17. If you are under 17 and 1/2, you still have to take drivers education and behind the wheel lessons.

It's actually different for every state, both the drivers ed and behind the wheel requirements. For example, in Nevada you would only take drivers education before you apply for the actual driver's license and no professional behind the wheel lessons are required. The licensing procedure for teens is governed by what is called the graduated driver license law and that what determines what hoops you have to jump through before you can get your permit or license.

It's different for Canada. Just try to contact whatever licensing agency you guys have there, the clerks will explain the procedure to you.
