Do a barrel roll!
As I am not from the US my point of view is purely based outside impressions. I often find myself wondering what sometimes happens in the US, and with 2 periods with Bush I gotta say I found myself loosing faith in America. Voting Obama for president reignited my hope not only for the US, but the entire world... it is a big hope to put on one mans shoulder, but dammit americans change opinions like the wind. Give the man a chance to make change. US has gone from being the greatest power the world have ever seen, to...well let's just say China have USA by the balls.

I'm Canadian so I don't have a first hand experience at this.

Bush, having 2 runs, dug the USA into a deeper hole than they could manage, Obama is slowly taking you out of that hole. To say he is a bad president, is stupid and you need some sense knocked into you, literally. I am not bashing Americans by saying this, but you guys are always so quick to point your fingers at the man in power, little do you seem to know is that he is running a damned country. He isn't managing a small household, for changes to be made, there has to be agreements throughout several political groups and even then, time is needed for these changes to take effect. What if Obama decided to make cigarettes illegal? People would still do it freely for quite a while as it takes time to adapt to changes like that, over time though, less people would be doing it freely.
Give the man some time to pull you guys out of the hole, which he has already started doing and made some decent progress as well.

The office changes every man to some degree.
Imagine what he must have learned when he got his first briefings.
Look how it ages every man who has held the office for two terms.
I still don't know why men want the job, other then to join the club of past presidents and what they know. Funny how they all get a long great after they get out and realize what its all about. ( Except Carter, they all pretty much hate that guy )

You get to learn all of the secrets ( I don't now how they sleep at night, they must be scared shitless getting all of the intelligence briefings) and you don't have any real exercisable power except the bully pulpit.
That is why the best communicators and best looking are the most popular over the last 50 years. Kennedy, Reagan, Clinton, and Obama looked and spoke well for the camera.
It's not really what they do, its how they do it that makes them popular.

The true power lies in the senate & congress, which can hold it for decades, and the financial/industrial leaders who steer policy from behind the scenes.

One thing for sure, It is a hell of a lot harder to get anything done now as president, since the TV camera and 24 hour news, than any president before Kennedy.
You think a cripple like FDR could ever be elected now, or some of the stone ugly greats from early American history. I'd like to see Lincoln, Washington, or Jefferson run now and deal with the shit these guys have to put up with.
