(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Alright, im not going to do into huuuuge detail with all the different types of martial arts, I am just going to do the average ones. Average meaning its Either in the UFC, or you can get trained that Martial Art at a community gym.

The types of Martial Arts I will be talking about:
- Tae Kwon Do
- Karate
- Muay Thai
- Boxing
- Kickboxing
- Wrestling
- BJJ

What will be in each of the pages will be very short descriptions on the selected martial art, some videos, and there will be an extra page on UFC.

[multipage=Tae Kwon Do]Tae Kwon Do

Tae Kwon Do is a very common martial art. Atleast in Canada you can go to a community martial arts clinic, and Tae Kwon Do would be there. It is the world's most popular martial art in terms of the number of practitioners, and is the national sport of South Korea.
Taekwondo is known for its emphasis on kicking techniques, which distinguishes it from martial arts such as karate or southern styles of kung fu. The rationale is that the leg is the longest and strongest weapon a martial artist has, and kicks thus have the greatest potential to execute powerful strikes without successful retaliation.

Here are some videos on Tae Kwon Do:

[multipage=Karate]KARATE:

Karate is also one of the most populated and well known martial art. I can almost guarantee that it is at a local/community fitness clinic. For many practitioners, karate is a deeply philosophical practice. Karate-do teaches ethical principles and can have spiritual significance to its adherents. The martial arts movies of the 1960s and 1970s served greatly to increase the arts popularity.

[multipage=Muay Thai]MUAY THAI:

Muay Thai is not too common, but I had to add this as I know most about it. I train Muay Thai, 3 times a week for an hour. I would say it can, or can not be, more intense than Karate or Tae Kwon Do, as it all depends on the trainer. Muay Thai is Thailands national sport, and believe me, you dont want to end up there in a fight. The art makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes. Technique is key in power, aswell as footwork.

Here are some videos on Muay Thai:

[multipage=Boxing]BOXING:

Everyone knows what boxing is. Although most people see it as a sport more than a martial art. I also do boxing classes, but only once a week. Boxing is all standing strikes with your fists. You CAN clinch, you DO body shots, and you either go for speed, or knockout punches. Believe it or not there are a lot of strategies to boxing. It has been the sole of alot of sports movies, it has been on tv since way back, and most people have heard of people like Mike Tyson, or Muhammad Ali.

[multipage=Kickboxing]KICKBOXING

Kickboxing can be a very powerful art. It is fairly common, and can be learned at most community martial arts clinics. In my opinion it is a mix of Tae Kwon Do Kicks, Muay Thai kicks and Punches, and Boxing. Kickboxing was originated in Japan. It is often practiced for self-defense, general fitness, or as a full-contact sport. There are many labelled catagories for kickboxing, and what I mean like that, is they differ from the origin. ie. American, French, Japanese.

[multipage=Wrestling]WRESTLING

Wrestling is not what most of you probably think it is. WWE has made a bad name for wrestling. It IS a martial art, and can be one of the most useful martial arts in a defensive point of view. Most schools have this for an extra activity. It is an ancient martial art that uses grappling type techniques such as clinch fighting, throws and takedowns, joint locks, pins and other grappling holds. It is also the oldest martial art known to man.

Here are some videos on wrestling:

[multipage=BJJ]BJJ

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is 95% based on submission grappling. It can be used for defence, or brutal attacks. Believe me, if your fighting in BJJ, one move could possibly leave you gasping for air, or with a broken bone. It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themself against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique. As of now it is the most popular martial art in southern america.

The UFC is the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Most people know about it. No it is not a martial art, but I added it because it is a great example of having almost every martial put together in fights. Dana White is the president of UFC, and the UFC is now the largest growing "Sport" out there. It is the most successful MMA promotion in the world with many of the sport's top fighters under contract.
Some famous UFC competitors are:

[multipage=My Ratings]MY RATINGS

I am going to rate each Martial art I have told you guys about on MY opinion. I am basing it on how it would help you in a street fight, and how well it works in tournaments. I will try not to be biased.

Okay first, Tae Kwon Do. Very strong technique wise, but they doesnt have the best defence. Very advanced kicks, but seems they only try to do kicks. Kicks will not win everything. I give it a 6.5/10

Second, Karate. Mostly based on using the energy within, strategic kicks and punches, but not usually KO power. It is very overrated, and for that I am going to have to only give it a 5/10.

Third, Muay Thai. I would say its general. It uses technique striking and defence all together. Not really much I can say, other than if you dont know defence you could be finished. I give it a 7.5/10

Fourth, Boxing. First I am going to point out the biggest flaw. Its standing hand strikes only. Defence is pretty basic, other than advanced combos that have to do with slipping and dipping. But usually there is ALOT of technique behind each punch to either be fast, or powerful. I give boxing a 4/10.

Fifth, kickboxing. Based mostly on power, and more than half on kicks. Based on Technique and instinct. Im going to give this a good 8/10

Sixth, Wrestling. To be honest, in a streetfight it could be used for an advantage. Its really about keeping them from doing anything to you, and you try to get an opening. Although strikes arent involved I give it a 6/10

Seventh, BJJ. Wouldnt really be good in a street fight unless you got them on the ground, but it is a lethal art. Meant for submissions it can take any person out of their senses. I give it a 7/10.

So the top 3 martial arts of this thread?
In first place, Kickboxing.
Second place, Muay Thai.
Third place, BJJ.

Thanks for everyone reading this, and maybe you guys will want to take up one of these arts as a hobby.

What I want to get you involved with. Below, please also answer these 2 questions.
Do you partake in a martial art?
If you do, what arts? If you dont, which ones would you be interested in taking?
