A rumour has arisen from a source that is famed for leaking other information such as: confirming Black Op's March 2010, naming Kinect before E3 May 2010, first Gears 3 Images April 2010, as well as others. This source has said that a new Call of Duty title from Infinity Ward will not be created on an new game engine, and will not be released this year under the title Modern Warfare 3.
The rumour speculates that Infinity Ward are creating a game that will focus on the character Ghost who appeared in Modern Warfare 2, this game will centre around the events leading up to the war in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare as a prequel, and it will then move on to reveal how Ghost became a member of Task Force 141, based on the comic book stories written by David Lapham. As you look into Ghost's life, players will revisit locations from both Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2, but this time from a different perspective.
Although entirely a rumour, it is from a very good source.The game is meant to be in development on the Modern Warfare 2 engine. Robert Bowling (Infinity Ward's Community Manager) was contacted, but has neither confirmed or denied the rumours.

To be honest if it runs off the Modern Warfare 2 engine like Black ops did, they won't be able to add much to the game. If they do add anymore all the problems from Black ops such as lag and stuff will all be even worse in this.

I will post my theory on cod games and how all the people that just posted are exactly what I'm talking about.
The Flawless COD Marketing System:
This all started at MW2 when they hyped the game up so much that if anything was wrong with it , it would be a let down. So they make the game awfully bad and keep following the reasons I have listed and then everyone aches for the next COD game to be much better. Everyone buys the next COD game which is just recycled trash from previous COD's which is slightly altered with a new story and nothing more. The game is okay fro a few weeks because of that slight difference and then people get bored and realize it is a piece of shit and then complain and hope for the next one to be amazing just like how this one was supposed to be.
So their plan is flawless and there are too many idiots who will keep buying their games and keep playing and also keep bitching. Also before you jackasses make a comment I only have Black Ops because I got it as a gift.

Sounds good, but I doubt many people care for anything besides the MP (campaign sounds good though) Hope the M40A3 comes back and theres no overpowered stuff...
