Metal could mean anything, like rocker said, but for me its A7X's Waking The Fallen album. They were metalcore when they released the album, but its the beginning of a transition from metalcore, to hard rock. Its has some great drumming, awesome guitar work and i find Shadows' vocals to be the strongest and most powerful of any album they have released so far, excluding love expressed through lyrics due to the fact emotions like love show through more in their Nightmare album
Dream Theater are another great band, personally i enjoy their Train of Thought album most, but all of their albums are great imo, with splended drum tracks thanks to the legendary Mike Portnoy, some of the best guitarwork ive heard in a prog metal band to date, and amazing basslines
imo they were one of the most talented bands on the earth till MP left, although they still are very talented :p i dont like the singing too much, as James LaBrie's voice isn't the greatest ive heard, and he is quite lacking in controlling his pitch.Now i'm just gonna name band's songs cos im far too tired to do more paragraphs :p

A very few select songs i'll recommend haha.
IMO, BFMV are slowly getting worse. I loved The Poison, SAF was bearable, but Fever to me is just horrible. I only enjoy Bittersweet Memories.
People who bash others music tastes have problems. It's understandable to share your opinion with others on a band, but to bash the person because of their music tastes are low. I enjoy all the songs posted on this topic so far, minus a few, but i'm not gonna bash the person who enjoys them purely because its their choice in music taste, and i respect that
