The quite incredible claim that video games are somehow to blame for an increase in rape has been proffered by a prominent US TV psychologist and author.
Carol[e] Lieberman told Fox News that interactive entertainment was "in large part" directly responsible for a recent surge in sexual violence."
The increase in rapes can be attributed in large part to the playing out of [sexual] scenes in video games," she is quoted as saying, without offering a droplet of evidence whatsoever.
Her shock claim arrives in a Fox News piece examining the mature themes of People Can Fly's upcoming FPS Bulletstorm. Its title? "Is Bulletstorm the Worst Video Game in the World?"
In it, Fox News claims that the 'worst part' of Bulletstorm (also possibly the 'worst game', remember) is its in-game reward system, Skillshots.
Dr. Jerry Weichman, a clinical psychologist at the Hoag Neurosciences Institute in Southern California, told Fox: "If a younger kid experiences Bulletstorm's explicit language and violence, the damage could be significant... Violent video games like Bulletstorm have the potential to send the message that violence and insults with sexual innuendos are the way to handle disputes and problems."

My Thoughts:
I kind of see where she is coming from, with games such as GTA, but this is still an outrageous claim to be making. Most people know that video games are fake and it should end as that. They're fun to play and are a way to pass the time, and that's basically it.
Plus, if she can't back it up with any real evidence, what are we supposed to believe from her?

So what do you guys think? Are video games related to acts of violence, both physical and sexual? Or is this just a load of bullshit? :bro:

I think movies & TV shows would encourage rape more than games.

Total idiot. I would understand if he said violence but rape? C'mon even GTA doesn't have that feature. :n:

It's all about how your parents raised you and/or your friends.

Do or Do Not, There is No Try
Well due to my dual careers at the moment and my educational background, I can truely say that these claims that video games are to blame for the increase in rape and violence is just absurd. It is parents fault, because the kids are learning and mimicing their parents behaviors in certain situations.

I'll give you an example. I had a young man (I think he was 17) who was before me for battery and obstructing an officer. I spoke to him and his parents for a good amount of time. I found out this boy doesn't play video games. However, he took an iron rod and hit an officer. I remember asking him what he was thinking at the time of the incident. His response was short and a quite simple one, "I just felt like it because the cop was f*cking with me." I later found out that his father used to hit his mother on a daily basis.

So no, it is not video games to blame. It is the parents.

You could look at this from a different point of view:
What if video games provide an outlet for would-be rapists that do it on video games instead of in real life?
We all take our violence out on video games so we don't have to in real life, not the other way around.
