WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 is being linked to the recent death of a young boy in New York. According to a report in the New York Daily News (via GamePolitics), 9-year-old Damori Miles jumped off the roof of the apartment building where he lived with a makeshift parachute he had made from plastic bags and string. A friend of Miles claims that he was attempting to pull off a wrestling move: "He tried to do a swan dive like Jeff Harding [sic] does in SmackDown. That was his favorite game. He played it all the time." Miles' mother told reporters she needs to "keep a better eye on what [my kids] are playing or watching. Kids are so impressionable." A WWE spokesperson offered their condolences to the boy's family, but noted that the game has an ESRB rating of Teen, meaning it's designed for those 13-years-old and older. The spokesperson also pointed out that SvR09 features neither parachutes nor wrestlers jumping off buildings, although some will argue that jumping off a 20-foot tall steel cage isn't exactly a far cry from jumping off a building.
Our Take: Without trivializing a poor boy's death, pinning things on a videogame doesn't really seem fair. The report quotes a neighbor who pointed out that the roof should have been locked, and that also doesn't take into account the fact that he was enrolled in special education at school. Regardless of how the incident is being portrayed, our best wishes go out to Miles' family.

Of course they are going to blame video games, a wrestling one at that. Its not like its the parents fault who should have been watching their child who's in a freakin special ed class.

Wow that kid must have had some mental issues or something

Well, he did tie a string to some Walmart bags thinking it would float him down safely. I really do get sick of hearing tragedies like this. The mother really should get alot of the blame for this instead of telling her its the videogames fault. She should be watching where here kids are going rather than what they're playing in a safe room.

I thought smackdown vs raw was a 16+ game. You can't blame the creaters. A nine year old kid believes he can jump off an apartment with bags and string. I don't get how that has anything to do with a wrestling game to be honest :P

Look at the first comment. He is a survivor :*(. But man this is pretty bad. If only the roof was locked like it was suppose to be.

Daddy's home.
Cos i have seen a wrestler jump off a building with plastic bags and string all the time...not that i watch wrestling, but when i use to.
Everything that happens with suicides is always connected with a game. Like one time in the UK there was some kid who got beat to death. They blamed it on Manhunt because they used a weapon off that game (i think it was something like that)

Y do you think he has mental issues? He's probably a normal hyper 9 year old kid who wanted to do what he saw on his favorite video game. It's still a shame though.
