WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 is being linked to the recent death of a young boy in New York. According to a report in the New York Daily News (via GamePolitics), 9-year-old Damori Miles jumped off the roof of the apartment building where he lived with a makeshift parachute he had made from plastic bags and string. A friend of Miles claims that he was attempting to pull off a wrestling move: "He tried to do a swan dive like Jeff Harding [sic] does in SmackDown. That was his favorite game. He played it all the time." Miles' mother told reporters she needs to "keep a better eye on what [my kids] are playing or watching. Kids are so impressionable." A WWE spokesperson offered their condolences to the boy's family, but noted that the game has an ESRB rating of Teen, meaning it's designed for those 13-years-old and older. The spokesperson also pointed out that SvR09 features neither parachutes nor wrestlers jumping off buildings, although some will argue that jumping off a 20-foot tall steel cage isn't exactly a far cry from jumping off a building.
Our Take: Without trivializing a poor boy's death, pinning things on a videogame doesn't really seem fair. The report quotes a neighbor who pointed out that the roof should have been locked, and that also doesn't take into account the fact that he was enrolled in special education at school. Regardless of how the incident is being portrayed, our best wishes go out to Miles' family.

Of course they are going to blame video games, a wrestling one at that. Its not like its the parents fault who should have been watching their child who's in a freakin special ed class.

Y do you think he has mental issues? He's probably a normal hyper 9 year old kid who wanted to do what he saw on his favorite video game. It's still a shame though.

He wa sin special ed, Maybe he was just a little slower then the rest or he had a mental disbility. Either way the parents should have been watching him

Wow he is 9. It's not hard for him to think that. They don't think straight at 9 that's why they need to be supervized.

It may be a "teen" game in the us but regardless he was under the age to play this game ANYWHERE, blaming games is a total fail, you suck as a parent buying your kids games not rated for them, its like buying your kids alcohol when they're 18, FAIL AS A PARENT. The kid was "special ed",

1. Hes special ed, why would a parent buy S.E kids a game that shows violence, just to pray they won't emulate it

2. Hes 9, underage for the rating of this game, the parents should have monitored him

3. Who gives a special ed kid access to an apartment building roof?

STOP blaming other people for your mistakes as a parent in an attempt to possibly make a claim against them for your kids death.

Im sorry for this young boy for dying but i hope this is a wakeup call to all irresponsible parents. These games are rated for a reason, not to take up space on the cover.

This is a message to the parents : Thank you for removing these genes from the gene pool and not allowing these genes be passed on.
