Its phisicly impossible, unless Jupiters/mar's magnetic field offsets, sending one of the few asteriods (Cant remember their names) that will have any impact on the world itself, but we are talking astroids around 5-10 kilometres wide, so by the time it comes, I think we will have advanced in technoligy far enough to be able to knock an astriod off course

yes, but the winter solstice is not an unusual phenomenon... as for the alignment of the planets - how could humans think themselves so important as to relate events outside our own planet to our existence? the mayans responsible for all this hype deserve a slap

During that certain winter solstice the sun will be at its solar maximum. That means it will be at its hottest, and producing much more solar flares. Normally we are protected from solar flares due to our electromagnetic fields. But at that certain time our poles will be due for a switch, and we will be unprotected.

Unless you can predict the future, then who knows. Personally i love this sort of stuff, its so interesting. The documentaries they create are also pretty amazing revolving around 2012. I personally think Aliens or something will come :/

Well it depends on what you believe really. Everyone has their own ideas. Heck some people say giant mushrooms will rule the world in 2012 (only kidding) but it's based on your beliefs. If you have a religion and you believe in God then no one should know the doomsday date except Him. If your not and you believe in other things then you judge on your own.. to me.. nah no one knows. I wouldn't believe it even if the US said it would. Even if a supercomputer calculated it for 100s of years. Nope not buying it.
