Simply re-install the app, and try to use when your firewall and av is off.
Tell me if it works

First off high five, Mellow is the man xD
secondly what version of messenger do you have?
try uninstalling it, then update windows live essentials if it is not currently on the latest version. Then download the latest version of MSN from their website. Restart computer and try it xD not sure if it will work but it's worth a shot. Sometimes its just the software version that needs updating

If you use internet explorer, try this to reset your proxy server settings:

* Open Internet Explorer
* Click on the Tools menu
* Go to Internet Options
* Click the Connections tab
* Then click LAN Settings
* Uncheck the Automatically detect settings check box
* Click OK

If this doesn't work, here is a 'guide' on how to fix it. IT IS NOT WRITTEN BY ME AND I HAVE NOT TESTED IT.
