Okay, This really caught my eye here. A private US firm wants to put man on Mars in under 20 years. Its quite a shock to here this because Mars just after Earth in the Solar system, meaning its just under 1 Light year away.

People say in 2012, the Sun will over run the earth and destroy everything in its path. If we manage to get on Mars we will stay safe. But not all is true, because its target is set for 10 years, not 1.

Heres an Image of the Solar System:

SpaceX is one of the two leading private space companies in the United States and has won $75 million from the US space agency NASA to help its pursuit of developing a spacecraft to replace the space shuttle.

The Californian company last year completed its first successful test of an unmanned space capsule into orbit and back, which meant the plans could go ahead to put Man on Mars. If all this goes to plan in the real thing, It looks like we'll be able to travel to Mars without any problems. Of course, its only going to be open to the rich at the start. Most likely costing over $50,000 per seat easily.

SpaceX has made a massive jump in there technology, and supposedly made the worlds fastest and strongest rocket the 'Falcon Heavy', which will have its first demonstration flight at the end of 2012. The launcher is designed to lift into orbit satellites or spacecraft weighing more than 53 metric tons, or 117,000 pounds

Will Mars be our new future home?
Will we actually be there in 10 years?
Would you live there?

I don't think the goverment gives a shit about us so i't wont happen. Also it would cost millions for 1 person. To go to the moon is costs 4 billion per trip according to NASA.And what would happen to the poor?

That's why Earth was hotter than an oven a long time ago. The greenhouse effect isn't just global warming. :p Its when the thermal energy is absorbed by the atmosphere, but can't escape back out into Space. Different gases are easier or harder to escape from.

there's a better planet out there to get to, people need to stop worrying about things such as who owns this territory and taxes and what not and the price of living and they should be figuring out how to travel at light speed so we can get off this planet before we use all the resources and find one in another solar system that we can then use just as badly as we used earth.

Venus is a thick CO2 atmosphere, thus causing the greenhouse effect. An atmosphere can block out radiation, like ours. No protection or the greenhouse effect makes a hot planet. Mercury is -200 something Celsius when it is in the dark. Venus is like 500 Celsius all around, all the time.

Space travel like war has given us many many things
It easy to forget how it all connected.

GPS is one example.
If we was to go mars we have to make a base.
And that would mean turning it into a more human friendly place that brings up some interesting ideas.

If private companies go into space it be interesting the reason why it a gold mine of knowledge. Only problem is RnD costs.

Real problem with space travel it to slow.

You guys need to learn how to read the damn article before posting. It says nothing about the government in this article for one. It is purely going to be funded by private firms who acquire their subsidies, it's up to them how they want to spend it. So all of you who act like your "paying for this though taxes" are wrong, it's not coming out of your pocket.

Today Will Be Different
That would be epic, but since our government keeps spending money... looks like the millions is going to cost is going to be coming out of our asses for the rest of our lives in taxes.
