(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Adderall, as many know, is an ADHD medication which helps patients stay alert and awake and helps lessen ADHD symptoms. But now, Adderall has become a quite popular substance in Colleges and High Schools.

Adderall basically gives anybody that takes it an edge, where they can stay awake for days at the most, and the concentration levels of anybody who takes it is dramatically increased. This is what gives Adderall the nickname of "Academic Steroids". A recent study shows that people who use Adderall scored about 96% average on tests, but only about 84% when clean of the drug. Also, in Yale University, the SAT scores of kids who took Adderall the day or 2 before the tests scored, believe this, 500 points HIGHER than the average of those who do not take it.

Even though this drug gives people the ability to study for hours and hours at night on end, and even increase grades. It doesn't naturally make you smarter, it only increases your ability to concentrate and stay up, so yes it will make you smarter after about 4 hours if you study while on the drug. But there are negatives to this as well.

First off, Adderall is a Schedule 2 Drug, this means that this drug is about the same level and Cocaine and Meth-amphetamine. Also, even though some College students use it occasionally for a boost to write an essay or study for finals, some take an addiction to this drug, and an overdose can potentially lead to Cardiac Arrest or Heart Attack. Also, the "coming down" sucks ass, because your body finally notices how much sleep it hasn't gotten, so you feel shitty for a while after.

So what to you think about the use of Adderall or any other ADHD in schools? Would you consider this cheating? This has over the years become a huge issue throughout schools in the US, yet no one has spoken out on it yet.

Also, believe it or not, but some parents actually buy their kids these pills just so they do better in school!

What you think about all this?

Would be better, at least.

And I can relate to the determination thing, I remember when I just joined secondary(high) school and I got a ton of BS detentions in the first month, I was stupid, lost all determination and as good as gave up.

I still regret that, and I wouldn't have given up had I not been so young and frankly stupid. Heck, I tried to catch-up but by that point my memory just couldn't manage it :(

Ehh, I just want a simple job among other things, these exams are such unnecessary stress :n00b:

I don't think it's cheating, you still need to put forth the effort to study, Adderall just makes it easier. Personally, I wouldn't recommend using it though. I could easily see someone getting hooked on it, not because of the chemicals, but because of the psychological effect it would have on them.

Personally though, I've never had to study real hard, I use simple memorization techniques that don't require much thought. Using these allows me to look over the information once or twice and then I've got all the answers memorized.

No it's not cheating, simply.

And whilst we're on this subject why are exams etc all based on how good your memory is? Surely a full assessment of you as a person among other things(kinda like in the military) would be a lot more effective, and a lot less stressful..? Anyone agree?

You don't really need to have a good memory to do good on tests, with the proper memorization techniques, anyone can pass with flying colors. Even the simplest things will work (in fact, it's the simplest methods that work best for me).

There are 2 ways to pass most tests, thorough understanding and pure memorization. Typically, it's easier to just memorize everything. I use basic methods like making condensed phrases and memorizing them through brute force. If it's dates or numbers, I associate them with names or places. Likewise, if it's a name or place, I associate them with their numerical counterpart. I make up silly phrases that are short and easy to remember. If you really want to remember it, try to find a way to make it interesting, as that information will stick with you.

Although, that's just what I do, and from how you're talking in your other posts, this might not even apply to you now. Hopefully it will help someone who has issues studying.

I'm not going in-depth, but I have my exams really soon and for whatever reason my memory is absolute bollocks and has been for a few years now. Don't ask why, I wish I knew.

Despite that though surely I'm right? Memory shouldn't dictate the life you lead.

That's true enough, but it's difficult to test most things without involving memory. The only subject you can really test without assessing memory would be math.

Yes, you're using a drug to enhance the way you act and preform in school. Should NOT be allowed to be sold. I have ADHD, and I do NOT use this and I do good in school because I know how to control myself, like a human being.

That's unfair, just like any other illness(or whatever else along those lines) this disorder can vary from person to person. Who's to say your ADHD is the same as his? Maybe his is a lot worse... get what I mean?

It's just like my asthma, my asthma is **** but other peoples' is often fine, thus my horridly uninformed classmates think it's OK to call my lazy etc when I'm not playing on their form team, as they assume that I'm faking it or something.

Any doctor will tell you that just about every illness varies from person to person. It's fine to say that you believe this drug should be disallowed however comparing your situation to someone else's is stupid.

^^ Not worded great for the most part, but you get the idea.

Hmmm.....This one is a hard one to determine the positives. I have a script for 60 a month which is about $600 a month. Covered by insurance of course. I take it for school than xanax to come down. It really screws up your sleeping schedule and I think it screws up my ability to focus and concentrate. I really don't see a great benefit from it. I actually just stock pile it now....even though i'm still in school it just makes me feel like i'm on coke.
