A bomb threat for London has been issued by Irish dissidents in the first coded warning outside Northern Ireland in 10 years, officials say.

Streets around the Mall were closed for five hours on Monday morning amid a major security alert.

BBC security correspondent Gordon Corera said: "My understanding is that this may have come because of a coded warning, which is why there is more concern about it than normal. Threats come in and out all the time.

"But if it was a specific code word warning, that would suggest something more serious and that would be why we have had this alert."

Yes but let me ask you this, was it the people who stay in London now that did that? no. these people are innocent people. Why must they go through this. Would you like something like this happening to you, for something you didn't do.

i was thinking the same thing. it doesnt matter wether you hate them or not or if just because your "this" and there "that" if some one's life was threatened it doesnt make it okay.

I agree with you that the london bomb is wrong. -repping me showed how immature you are, atleast Cammy had the maturity to prove his point and that only without wanting to start an argument, as did I. Everyone has the right to voice their opinion, and the right for their opinion to be heard, that's abuse of -rep in my eyes.

Well, looks like i'm not getting any tubes or trains for a while.

And to the IRA-London debate, yes the English are in the wrong, but so are the Irish. Both sides lost lives and that should stay all in the past and never creep into the minds of people today. I can also understand that the irish are mad about the queen visiting their country and costing them A LOT of money, but anywhere the queen goes so do like hundreds, if not thousands of news reporters and paparazzi go which then results in money going back into the economy.
