Post: To rep or not to rep

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); This is the debate forum, I believe this to be a debatable subject, so here you have it.

As you know, or at least you should really... Rep is gone. This has sparked mixed reviews in the community and to be honest, I'm quite sick of hearing nothing but Side A VS Side B. So here it is, discuss, debate and vote away.

Don't flame, don't bitch or a mod will close it and rightly so.

Oh and if you want my opinion. I like rep, I don't love it, I don't need it, I just like it. For some it's more, for some it's less, but like any system... boosters going to boost.

Sure it serves no real purpose, but is it not fun? Everyone wants to strive to the top and such. It's a common human triat. Those who hate rep are new fags, who don't have any, the ass lickers, who pretends to be happy about it being gone to get mod, and old fags, who already have real E rep, so theres no point in the number one. I'm guessing you're just someone who was discriminated upon because you had no rep lol

Quit talking like you know everyone and get off your high horse. If you need rep for a purpose, you're sad. This is a forum, not a video game. If you want a "level-up" system, here's an idea: Go play a game that has a level-up system. I'll admit, it was kind of fun to see that people liked what I was saying, but rep was SO broken. People were gaining reputation for saying funny things, boosting, and just for saying something that someone agrees with, those don't provide an accurate representation of who's trustworthy. It skews the numbers and basically makes rep useless. Because of that, we have people constantly bickering about rep, wasting mods' time, and when the problem is resolved, what comes of it? A change in the number that represents how much time you spend here. That's it. I was never discriminated against due to rep, I'm not interested in spending the time required to be a mod, and I didn't have a large amount of rep. There are outliers like me.

And people never gain rep from actually contributing? I hosted free challenge lobbies, and released 6 xp glitches for black ops. Sure, from time to time people did rep me for no good reason, but I still got most of that rep for a reason. That is what people are forgetting. It's not like you can say something funny your whole entire NGU career and gain rep from that. [Besides a few occasions.] You actually have to contribute somehow. And if you think I gained my rep from being funny or being well liked, you're wrong. If you asked a person who I was, they wouldn't have known me. I like to keep to myself, instead of ass licking people to become friends with them. The only people who are my "friends" are those who are interested in my work. So you can say people did receive rep through posting funny things and such, but you are a ****ing idiot if you think someone gained all his rep through that, thus making rep have more value then you are saying. And I stand by my generalization about New fags, old fags and ass-lickers. Because it is true, mostly.

The only downside about the removal of reputation is the thread quality being low. People will no more spend one hour or more to create an ultimate. Nevertheless, it has more beneficial points. All in all, I'm highly with it's removal. :y:

In my opinion, it should not be judged based on the community. Reputation was liked by the vast majority of members. On the other hand, it resulted in too way useless hate/arugements/infractions.

And before I get quoted with " Community means everything". Well I agree but that's in real life, it's a private forum. You're subject to forum rules by the owner. Moreover, it's not like the community has ever gotten to add/remove something, which means by debating upon this you are going to an another point.

I have seen more arguments about the removal of rep than I have seen about having rep... A feature that lets users disable their own rep should fix everything...

I never said people didn't get rep from posting useful stuff. I stated that the rep from funny/agreeable comments and repboosting skews the numbers. Because of this skew, it's not possible to tell if a user is reputable by their rep. I didn't have much rep, I was just about at 600, the vast majority of that came from debates - from posts where people agreed with me. Rep became dysfunctional. It was intended to determine who's reputable, but it could no longer do that. Therefore it was removed.
