According to California's Legislative Analyst's Office, it costs about $47,100 to keep an inmate in jails in California. The cost to execute an inmate is around $1,800,000 of taxpayer's money. So, an inmate has to be in jail for around 38 years to cover the cost of one execution.

I don't understand why American laws allow criminals to keep fighting for their case. If you were proved guilty, then why is the death sentence suspended for several years for the "defendant to gather more evidence." A criminal should be killed within the year for major crimes (rape, murder, gangsterism, drug dealing, etc...), especially when there are many eyewitnesses able to back up the case.

And I rather pay more tax money on the death penalty, than pay less money for criminals to sit around in paradise prisons equipped with television and work-out gyms.

That would never work as it would be considered morally incorrect to impolitely kill serial killers. Yeah, like that makes sense.

True, unfortunately.

I heard that the death penalty costs more than an inmate living in prison for 60 years.

To that one must ask, why? What is it that costs so much? It is my belief that it is due to court costs concerning the inmate. To simply lock him away and forget about them, or deal with the problem. They decide to jail them instead of taking responsibility, and issue the proper punishment for the crime. It is not that it costs that much, they put that there to hopefully deter any questions about why do the most dangerous people in society are locked away, instead of getting rid of that trash. They take up space, and resources better used for other things.

I'm for it, it may seem like a barbaric way to deal with a situation, but sometimes it is needed.

Really?
Why the hell does it cost so much?
I don't see why they can't just do a Hitler and stuff them all in a gas chamber. I'm pretty sure a mass execution would be cheaper than that.

It's because we don't do mass execution. Instead we have a court system that takes years to have the person executed, tons of lawyer fees, and then finally the execution is done.

Aww. That's bogus. If there's absolutely no doubt that the person did it, then execute them immediately. They don't have the rights to defend themselves anymore. In my opinion, if you are a stone-cold killer who can take another person's life, then you have no rights and should be executed. And to save more money, with a rope and not with chemicals to make it "less painful".

I am 100% for the death penalty. I wish all states would enforce it for capital crimes. However, I am completely against the "humanitarian" ways of death penalty, which is costing taxpayer money. Just take them out back, put a bullet in their head, and then move on. Total cost is about $5 versus the $2 Million/per death we are paying now.

It's actually about $100 lol. You got to cremate them and buy a jar. Don't want to give them a grave, cost too much.

Just make a firepit. No need to buy a jar, just throw ashes in the lake.
