Authorities in Tampa, Florida, have arrested a 17-year-old after discovering via a tip that he allegedly planned to set off explosives and kill dozens of students at his former high school, officials said Wednesday.

Police found explosive materials in Jared Cano's home, as well as a manifesto outlining a minute-by-minute plan detailing specific targets at Freedom High School, Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor said.

I'm not sure that his plot was realistic to carry out," Freedom High School Principal Chris Farkas said later Wednesday. But still, word of the planned attack left members of the school's community shaken and shocked, he told reporters.

Cano is charged with possessing bomb-making materials and threatening to throw, project, place or discharge a destructive device. He also faces drug charges.

The fact that a tipster led to the former student's arrest in Tampa shows the importance of schools nationwide building a relationship with their communities, said MaryEllen Elia, Hillsborough County Public Schools superintendent.

"Someone realized it was very important that they share this information and that they help us address this issue," she told CNN. "I think it's very important that we make sure that people are aware that this kind of situation could occur anywhere."

Maybes hes a psychopath and that's why he got bullied, not that bullying is right.

I would understand if these people that plan revenge attacks actually killed the bullies but 9 times out of 10 the bullies have also left that school. I have no sympathy for people like this even if they did get bullied, life is tough you just got to deal with it.

whether he's been bullied or not, he is still not right upstairs... no rational person retaliates being picked on with blowing somebody up.

i'm not condoning bullying, but, that poor kid needs some help and some meds. and probably some better parents while he is at it.
