Let's just say, you rule an empire.
If you were loved no one will want to kill you because they love you so much =D
If you were feared, no one will want to kill you because they are too scared of you =D

So would you rather be loved or feared?

It would clearly be a mix of both, as shown in modern society those who need to be punished get punished, and those who deserve love get it.

Trusted but feared is probably the best scenario.

Loved... If you were feared and were generally thought to be a bad person, the US might step in and try to kill you.

Unless you're the US, that is.

Let's face it, most people fear their government these days. They've proven time and time again they just can't be trusted to look out for the average Brit/American. I could go on and on...

I would be loved because everyone will help you with tough decisions and if something goes wrong the people will accept. Also people won't rebel against you. You would also have a sustained government for many years to come.

I disagree completely. The US actually likes having tyrants in power, just not ones against the US or ones that cause political pressure on the US.

In this day and age,there's always someone hating your f ucking guts (OZ speak for hatred towards a person).
Gauranteed,you won't be loved by everyone as is evident throughout the history of mankind has shown.
To rule an empire,one needs power.
Power = Fear.
Once this fear is instilled into the minds of the masses,the outcome is control.
