Post: Video Game Tester

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I really want a career in gaming because well I love playing video games and I love the fact that people are gifted enough to make video games. Does anyone know any really good sites to look into becoming a tester? I want a career in gaming, but I don't want to go to college for 4 years to prove that i'm good at playing video games and giving feedback on what needs approving. I don't even need to get paid to test them, I just want the opportunity to move up into the industry. Yes I will go to college i'm sure for some sort of degree is computer technology, but theres other ways which is why i'm asking. Thanks!

First of all you can't go to college for video game testing. Video game testers also don't make a whole lot of money. If you are interested in a career in video/gfx take some electronic engineering and gfx courses at your school. Then you can go to college for visual engineering or video design and start making your own games to make an ACTUAL living.

I'm sure if you spend enough time searching on Goober.com you can find a company that pays 50k a year to non graduates to play video games for themWinky Winky

Generally most universities or colleges aren't going to have a department for gaming. I know DeVry has a "Game Engineering" degree if you want to look there. And just like Jakob said, they don't make a lot of money. And it's more than meets the eye. The company doesn't simply say, "here's our game, play it for us." No. Video game testers are called upon per "as need basis." They don't earn salary our by the hour. They get paid for a job then that's it. And the games are most likely in Alpha or Beta stage, so as a game tester, it would be your job to find every possible bug within the game, report it in some organized and professional way, and tell the developer so they can change the code. Good luck though.
