Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old boy from Williamsville, NY, took his life Sunday after what his parents claim was years of bullying because of struggles with his sexuality.

His parents, Tracy and Tim Rodemeyer, say that Jamey faced bullies for years, though things intensified in middle school, according to NBC 2. Jamey recently became a freshman at Williamsville North High School.

In the wake of their loss, the Rodemeyers hope to carry on a message of anti-bullying and acceptance. "To the kids who are bullying they have to realize that words are very powerful and what you think is just fun and games isn't to some people, and you are destroying a lot of lives," Jamey's father told WIVB.

Tracy Rodemeyer misses her son, but hopes the loss can still be used to teach a message of tolerance. "It took him away from our family way too early and we're just convinced that he had a purpose on this planet and it was to touch as many people as he could," she told NBC 2.

According to NBC, the Rodemeyers had gone to the school about the problem in the past. Jamey even sought counseling to learn to deal with the problem, but it seems it wasn't enough.

While they say their son seemed happy in the days leading up to the tragedy, his "It Gets Better" YouTube posting from May includes details about how intense the bullying was.

Through it all, Jayme remained outwardly optimistic. “That's all you have to do. Just love yourself and you're set. And I promise you, it'll get better,” he said in the video, which you can see in full below.

Gay bullying has been gaining increasing attention in the media, as a number of tragedies has brought the issue into the spotlight. Earlier this month the California State Senate passed "Seth's Law" a measure designed to curb anti-gay bullying in schools.

If you really feel so strongly about it how about trying to start a rally somewhere instead of throwing around negative comments on the interwebs.

Bullying is an act of repeated aggressive behavior in order to intentionally hurt another person, physically or mentally.

At least google shit before you cite it. Note, it doesn't say "Being insulted for blaming a bullying victim on their suicide just to stroke your e-go"

Thanks to my parents I got through my depression and didn't do anything dangerous, he probably didn't get any support from his parents/guardians, or not enough. If they did, they would of had him move to another school. His parents were probably against the fact their son was gay, and did their fair share of 'bullying'.

Please, please, stop talking like you know everything, when you go through an abominable moment in your life and you have severe depression like this guy had, you will understand to why he chose to commit suicide.

By the way this quote is proof that you had other options LOL.... I mean cmon bro you said it yourself and you are still here typing....

You ARE repeatedly doing it, in every post from you guys its "**** you" "you ****ing idiot". In pretty much every post!!

And since you are so into definitions: su·i·cide
/ˈsuəˌsaɪd/ Show Spelled [soo-uh-sahyd] Show IPA noun, verb, -cid·ed, -cid·ing.
noun
1.
the intentional taking of one's own life.
2.
destruction of one's own interests or prospects: Buying that house was financial suicide.
3.
a person who intentionally takes his or her own life.

Doesnt say anything about bullies Winky Winky

By the way on an unrelated note... I am glad you have made it through any personal issues you might have had in your lifetime and I hope you can share it with others in a positive way to maybe help them to understand there are more options than just suicide.

Wiki article does mention often causes though.
Suicide is often committed out of despair, or attributed to some underlying mental disorder which includes depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, alcoholism and drug abuse.

Options are subjective, he was able to beat depression with a lighter case situation, supportive family and being strong. That boy didn't necessarily have options

What do you mean so what? yes I had another option because my family gave me support and made me feel loved which gave me a reason to move on and not to do anything like committing suicide.

But to be consistently bullied and have possibly no support from anyone over something that isn't your fault is really hard man, and you can't tell me if you went through that everyday with no support you wouldn't consider it.

Ok first mistake kiddo, dont use Wikipedia... lol.

You guys are seriously something else. The options in this situation are not subjective. He did not have and was not forced to make one single choice (suicide). At no point was this EVER his only option. To say anything else is literally WRONG. What dont you understand about that? Really!?

You can't say he had other options because you're not in his situation or mindset. You can think clearly and think that everyone in your town of Bel-Air will help you.

Bro, I honestly 100% feel you that it would be hard and sure you may THINK it to be unbearable. But the emotional pain caused by these problems cannot cause your body to force you to succumb to suicide. It is just not a physical reality. That is the ONLY point I am trying/ and have been trying to make. I realize that great pain and suffering in ones lifetime can cause them to WANT to kill themselves but that is completely different than literally not having any other option and being physically forced to commit suicide. I totally feel bad for the kid and you and whoever else but Its not to say that he only had one option that is just crazy man.
