Wow, when did this turn into a pro/anti weed discussion?
Back on the main topic, there is a negative social stigma on people who use drugs which is quite unfounded. Not everybody that takes drugs is a hopeless drug addict. Many successful people take drugs too, and not just musicians (really, taking drugs is almost a requirement for being a famous musician at this point). I smoke weed now, but I used to do worse, and yes people will look at you differently because of it. You have to decide what is more important, those people, or the high. For me the high wasn't worth losing my friends so I gave it up.
It's good to hear you considered the feelings of those around you, but I still question this "not everyone that takes drugs is hopeless".
What pisses me off is people who act as though drugs are harmless. People should take it from someone who knows, withdrawal and cravings are not fun, disrupted sleep, no energy, paranoia, cold sweats, it was horrible. I've gone though it. I've had a year of using drugs as a crutch and followed it up with a year of horrible withdrawal and rebuilding my life.
My medical condition is getting worse now, but I was quite capable in University, it wasn't till I turned 24 that I started having proper mobility issues... at 20 years old I did regular walking and swimming, and I studied martial arts (both Aikido, a Japanese martial art and Viking Norsemen combat, I am trained in longsword, spear, and quarterstaff techniques). I was not an unfit man. My condition still causes me a lot of pain though, and migraines where common place for me. I turned to drugs for a crutch, and trust me, weed is sod all compared to the guy who lent on morphine and coke to get himself though the day.
Perhaps some people can use drugs without it fúcking them up but I've honestly never seen it outside of the odd person I know who uses weed medicinally. Everyone who smokes even weed recreationally that I've met have been worse off for it. To claim the "social stigma" is unfounded really is stupid. Not only, like I said, are all the people I know who do drugs fúck ups, but drugs are illegal, which means someone somewhere is buying, selling or growing this shit, and gangs/organised crime is never that far away. The people I know means I could, with a couple of phone calls get a couple of lbs of weed RIGHT NOW for free, hell I could probably get cocaine if I wanted it. There is a reason for the "social sigma" and I'm sorry, but it IS deserved.
Personally, I just wish the pro-weed crowd wasn't so full of teenage stoners who haven't got a bloody clue what they're talking about. They've had a joint once or twice and think they're oh so cool. Yeah, well, when you're in hospital with liver issues, when you're owing hundreds of pounds and have no job or income, when you're living on the streets unsure what will happen next, perhaps you'd think twice... oh and before anyone says I'm getting my opinion on drugs from fúcking movies. ALL OF THIS HAPPENED TO ME! FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE!
In the almost 26 years I've been alive, I've had a very complex life. These experiences have moulded me into the person I am, but honestly, while I regret nothing as I'd not be me otherwise. My life would likely be a lot better if I hadn't relied on drugs, and I had a reason to do so... now I have no choice, I have little hospital approved dealers (they're called doctors), who give me bottles of drugs to make the pain go away, but if I could realistically stop taking them tomorrow I would.

No it can't. Cannabis is not the wonder drug you think it is. Weed will not cure everything. You have no fúcking clue what I'm taking every day. Don't be so conceited. This post only serves to show how ignorant you really are.
