Honestly? A stalemate. Both powers are too powerful to decisively defeat the other without the use of nuclear weapons. Also, both powers will likely be bankrupt upon the end of the war anyways.

I think that most of our resources and theirs too would be destroyed first if anything.

I honestly am not sure that we are able to make an informed decision. Who cares who has a larger army/tanks/etc, it will come down to who has the ability to stop Nuclear Missiles from destroying their country. Does the USA or Russia have some anti-missile type defense capable of stopping a nuke? or is it possible to break the encryption on one of them and divert the explosion? Can we intercept their plans and nuke them before they nuke us? Basically if you don't get my point, it will be a high-tech war, not simply who has the greater manpower.

This is a tough debate to come to a decision on. Both countries are bona fide superpowers and most countries would not dare pick a fight with them. Both have ridiculous budgets for their armies and have nukes to boot as well. Personally, I like the Russians more because the Spetnaz and other specially trained fighters receive brutal training that gives them an edge on American spec ops members. I also like the Russians because I feel the American government uses the military incorrectly and makes them too large a focus in their budgeting. I also think Russia will be able to recruit more countries to its side of the fight because there are a lot of countries that hate the U.S but don't have the strength to do anything about it. With Russia backing them, they may be willing to join the fight. That being said, if there really is a nuclear war whether or not Russia wins; humankind is f****d. I would have said the planet is screwed over but it isn't; if I remember correctly, it takes several hundred thousand nukes to actually be able to destroy the planet and thankfully we don't have that much weapons-grade plutonium or uranium.

No, no one would fight because we are in the UN

/facepalm The US has a budget of $698 for all military activities and makes up 43% of global military spending, Russia has $58.7 and makes up 3.5%. Spending isn't anywhere close.

Nukes wouldn't come out as both lose.

Oh really? Have you seen what Seals go through? Along with that, the US tech is much, much more advanced.

US have 1.4 million active personnel and 1.4 reserve
Russia has 1 million active and 20 million reserve(they consider civilians soldiers defaultly)

/facepalm /facepalm /facepalm /facepalm /facepalm

You have to be joking. The US would most likely have the UK, France, and Germany to say the least. Russia maybe China, and North Korea. If we're talking all out those fit for service:
The US side would have available:
- 83,880,000 Troops, a budget of around $820 billion a year
- Most advanced tech
Russian:
- 343,056,000 Troops, a budget of around $188 bullion
- Difficult transporting troops

Take into account China would want to avoid going to war with the US as that means they lose out big time, then truthfully this isn't a war, it's a slaughter.

LMFAO. Oh your serious. The US has 9,600 nuclear warheads, Russia 12,000. Our two nations alone could devastate the planet and kill off most human life.

Do you mean that in the sense that the world has a perception that only powerful countries are in the UN or because the UN is a powerful organization. UN membership isn't that big a deal in either sense; there are fewer non-members than members, so it's not exactly a very special group. If you think the UN is a powerful organization; sorry to burst your bubble but it isn't. If you said the U.S is a member of NATO, that would have made a lot more sense.

I'm not discrediting the Seals training program in anyway whatsoever; the Seals program is extremely intense as well. The Spetnaz are known to use methods that aren't allowed or frowned upon in the Western World (Europe and North America). Estimated success rates for the Seals stand at about 1/5 whereas in the Spetnaz the success rate is 1/3. Now before you get excited and think that the Seals program is tougher; this means nothing, the skills of applicants and average results aren't distributed evenly. Secondly, if there are more applicants to the Seals than to the Spetnaz and the Seals only require a specific amount; more people are going to be cut. That being said, I can't definitely give you an answer on who's training is toughest because I have not experienced either let alone both. I can then only give you my best opinion with the information I can gather.

You make a valid argument; what I should have said is that Russia spends a lot on their military and the U.S spends an insane amount. Take the U.S out of the picture and Russia will in comparison with the rest of the world be spending a large sum of their cash on their military. I didn't say they both spent roughly equivalent amounts, I simply said they both spent a lot. As for the nukes; obviously the nukes won't come out immediately; they're not pistols, you can't get trigger happy with nukes.

Should've worded what I said, a little better. When I said the planet would be screwed, I literally mean this sphere of rock we live on. It would take insane amounts of nukes to destroy this planet. As for wiping out most of humanity; I concur, 21 000 nukes should be sufficient.

The numbers game is on the U.S's side for the foreseeable future however the Russians are working on aggressively expanding their recruitment and boosting military spending to get them higher up the military power scale.

I personally don't agree with the way America utilizes it's military; not that the Russian military is a holy, sacred force that comes out only in dire circumstances. Maybe, it's the media, maybe it's not. All the wars and fighting that the U.S seems to be doing is just covering up their blunders, and perhaps slightly based on greed. The U.S created Osama Bin Laden; invading the Middle East to hunt him down was a very expensive way of fixing a mistake. Also, like I mentioned before, the U.S's military spending budget is insane. With that many economic problems, they should seriously consider not spending nearly 10% of their budgets on defense spending.
