It's not that clean-cut. If we lost 40% of our oil right now, the U.S. economy would be so damaged that there wouldn't be
any money to invest into new fuel sources. We do need to reduce oil reliance, and we are, but it's not something that can be done overnight. I definitely think that the attention the government is putting into alternative fuel sources needs to continue, and even grow, but we can't just say "**** oil" and let Iran close the Strait of Hormuz.
Point is, yes, we need to reduce our reliance and we are, but it won't be a quick process by any means.
