Post: UK driving age limit going to be 16?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); My dad was telling me about the government talking about bringing the driving age limit down to 16.

It would be great if this happened, but there would be a lot more crashes, ect.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it will happen?

Its a terrible idea. It's 16 in my state and there are more dropouts in school than I have ever seen. I have lived in 3 other states where driving age was 17. I know it isnt that big of a difference but it will make a difference. Driving sucks. Its fun at first but when you realize you have to put all your money into gas, you avoid driving as much as possible.

Insurance would be off the scale, it's already hard for a 17/18 year old to get 'cheap' insurance.

That is the main reason why i can't afford a drive, getting the car is no problem, but paying for the insurance... that's way to much...

Nowadays, all the teenagers are begging to be gangsters which will lead insurance cost to go higher in the future.

Oh god no! I say crank it up to 18 in fact! The prices for insurance would be so high. I'd rather just wait til I'm 18 to buy a car to be honest (I'm 15)

Partly people stealing cars & teenagers being dicks with their cars.

Richard.
Won't be active..
They will lower the legal drinking age in the UK soon to I bet.

To like 16, our country is quite bad with stuff like that.

Drinking 21
Army 18
Driving 16

?????

I can go kill people and terminate innocent lives in a car but I can't drink a $#@!ing beer?

I think that they should all be 18, in the UK as well, it's when you start to finally be an adult and you get to step up to the plate to really be a man/woman. You learn to take responsibility and you are finally deemed an adult. Most likely would save some lives too.

I know in Wisconsin you can be any age if your parent gives you the drink (and there with you)

You can join the Army at 17 with parent permission.

and the driving, oh well.

Get a old car.
Have a female as the main driver (Mum, her sister ect..)
Don't base your quotes on comparison websites, if you phone up insurance companies they'll be cheaper than online prices.
Pass plus will lower your insurance

Are you driving? I can tell you none of them will work. I have a 1.2 1998 Corsa. It's got the cheapest insurance I could find. But just because it's older it doesn't mean to say it will be cheaper. I wouldn't mind a 95 Golf 1.6, but it will be expensive because it's a 1.6. Sometimes for older cars it's harder to replace parts if it get's into a crash, unless it's a common car such as a corsa.

Having someone as a main driver and doesn't use the car as much as the 2nd driver is called fronting and is illegal. If you get caught you're in trouble. This is also why insurance is high. Put your mum as the 2nd driver. I did and it was a few hundred cheaper than just me.

Using the internet is cheaper than phoning up. Why? Because the company don't have to pay staff to do individual quotes as they do on the internet. Look around though and don't use price comparison sites. They're extortionate, even though mine is anyway.

Pass Plus doesn't do much either. I took it for the experience, but these days it doesn't knock much off your insurance. Some companies don't even ask for it.

You just gave a shit load of bad advice that could cause someone to get into trouble and pay higher premiums.

Now on topic. I wouldn't like 16 year olds driving around. They're not mature. They'll see it as a cool status and do stupid shit. Insurance would be ridiculously higher for everyone. More drivers on the road meaning more fuel being used meaning higher fuel prices. More emissions pouring into the Earth. There are many disadvantages to lowering the age by a year. I haven't heard anything on this either so unless someone provides a source I don't think it's true.
