Post: UK driving age limit going to be 16?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); My dad was telling me about the government talking about bringing the driving age limit down to 16.

It would be great if this happened, but there would be a lot more crashes, ect.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it will happen?

I wouldn't mind a 95 Golf 1.6, but it will be expensive because it's a 1.6. Sometimes for older cars it's harder to replace parts if it get's into a crash, unless it's a common car such as a corsa.

Having someone as a main driver and doesn't use the car as much as the 2nd driver is called fronting and is illegal. If you get caught you're in trouble. This is also why insurance is high. Put your mum as the 2nd driver. I did and it was a few hundred cheaper than just me.

Using the internet is cheaper than phoning up. Why? Because the company don't have to pay staff to do individual quotes as they do on the internet. Look around though and don't use price comparison sites. They're extortionate, even though mine is anyway.

Pass Plus doesn't do much either. I took it for the experience, but these days it doesn't knock much off your insurance. Some companies don't even ask for it.

You just gave a shit load of bad advice that could cause someone to get into trouble and pay higher premiums.

Now on topic. I wouldn't like 16 year olds driving around. They're not mature. They'll see it as a cool status and do stupid shit. Insurance would be ridiculously higher for everyone. More drivers on the road meaning more fuel being used meaning higher fuel prices. More emissions pouring into the Earth. There are many disadvantages to lowering the age by a year. I haven't heard anything on this either so unless someone provides a source I don't think it's true.

Well must be an area thing because I have friends who are 17/18 who do that and their insurance is cheaper by doing so. I didn't tell them all of that, I'v been told & so have many other people.

I can back that up too because my Mum watched a TV program (Maybe Watchdog) about it all & a few of them things popped up as well.
Passplus does lower your insurance.

Like I said, it must be a thing about where you live, if you live in a crap area insurance will be higher surely? I don't live in a crap place so that must be why? idk.

I own a Volvo 340 1.8, I don't drive it due to I'v got other things to pay out right now.

All of the advice was stuff that works around here, its stuff to consider NOT take word for word.

Having a cheaper car might be an area thing, but it also depends on the availability of the car. If there are loads, you might be better off, if there are few you might pay loads.

Fronting is illegal.

I only got asked for passplus on the young drivers insurance sites. They quoted me 6k for a 98 corsa 1.2. So maybe it does do something, but I'm not willing to pay 6k to knock a few hundred off.

Well some people are going to take the risk for cheaper insurance. You can't say 'it's illegal, people shouldn't do it'
People download pirated music/films/games, that's illegal..

I'm not arguing on a forum over a silly thing.

Shall we leave it as that yeah?

We have states that permit 13 year olds to get a learners permit and then when they are 16, get their license.
In the state of Massachuestts 16 and half is the required age for license. You cannot get a permit until you are 16.

That pretty unlikely to happen.

15-1/2 for California for a permit, 16 for license. 1 year until you can drive people under 18 years old or until you turn 18.

I'd like to call it debating. If you get caught you get 6 points on your license. Getting six points on your license is all you can get for the first 2 years of driving. So you get caught fronting and you get banned and fined. Worth it? I think not.

It's not the same as downloading, it's rare downloaders get caught compared to uploaders. Plus, I don't think it's a silly thing either. But hey, if you think getting banned from driving and fined is silly, then go ahead and do it. I'm just trying to let people know that what you said might make your insurance cheap, it could also cost you your license. And it's people doing this why everyone else has to pay high premiums.
