Post: UK driving age limit going to be 16?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); My dad was telling me about the government talking about bringing the driving age limit down to 16.

It would be great if this happened, but there would be a lot more crashes, ect.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it will happen?

A 16 year old being in control of something that could kill someone.. No thanks.
Insurance would be off the scale, it's already hard for a 17/18 year old to get 'cheap' insurance.

Here in the US it's 16 to 16 and half for a license.

Where I live, if you play your cards right, you can have your license by the time you're 14 :p.

I don't understand this in the US. (I know this isn't the case in some areas)

Drinking 21
Army 18
Driving 16

?????

I can go kill people and terminate innocent lives in a car but I can't drink a fucking beer?

I think that they should all be 18, in the UK as well, it's when you start to finally be an adult and you get to step up to the plate to really be a man/woman. You learn to take responsibility and you are finally deemed an adult. Most likely would save some lives too.

I agree with this 100%. I find it ridiculous that I can fight for my country, but not have a beer.

I though it was already 16? I've only be driving for a year now though so it doesn't bother me but Insurance prices for 16 year old would be ridiculous.

No it's 17, but most people start driving when they're 18 cause by the time they've done there driving lessons etc...

In Ireland sixteen year-olds can legally drive work vehicles and tractors. You only need to take a theory test to qualify too, so you don't have to even set foot in a tractor. I might remind you that tractors are x100 times more dangerous than a car, they're fucking huge and can have massive loaders on them that could fuck you up with a flick of a button.

I agree that the insurance would be off the scale which is incredibly unfair but if insurance companies are allowed be ageist then who's going to stop them?

I think it would be a positive thing actually, young people are fast learners, have great reactions and have a shitload of time on their hands. The only thing they don't have is money.
