I believe its called faith. A firm belief in something for which there is no proof but have complete trust.

Faith-Confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea, or thing.

How can you be confident in something that has been disproved?

Faith = Gullibility

It isn't a good thing. It's not a good quality to have. If I told you that I am secretly an alien from planet Zoltar and you believe me, it doesn't make you righteous. It makes you an idiot.

Oh 1337 I appreciate how accepting you are of other people religious or non-religious beliefs. I am in no shape or form trying to change anybodies mind, I just want to understand what is going through your heads.

Please explain to me the difference between the Bible and the Harry Potter series. I'm sure you don't believe that anything in those books are actually possible, but why would you believe that all those magical occurrences in the Bible are true?

I'll tell you why, it is most likely because the first people to come across the Bible were not very educated and did not understand what science even was, so they thought whatever they read was real. They passed this belief in the bible on to their children, and those children taught their children, etc. When you grow up being told something is true it is burned into your brain and you never bother to disprove it.

What if we took a group of 10 new born babies and isolated them in a place with no religion. And they got the same education you are getting right now. At the age of 16 you let them read a fiction novel(we can use harry potter as an example), using common sense they will instantly know it is not real. Then you give them The Bible and tell them its just another book and ask them "Do you think this is fiction or non-fiction?" Without a doubt all 10 of them will say fiction.

So what am I trying to prove here? If we took a group of non-biased humans who have not been exposed to religion at all, they will all use their ability to think and process information to disprove the bible. They could take every "fact" from the bible and find a scientific explanation to it.

Yes most religious people don't, but my question still goes unanswered, why?

Are you comforted by thinking there might be a god that decides everything ahead of time and gives you what you want?

I will not try to dispute that there is no god, because there is no way to be certain if there is or isn't a god. I am not willing to worship something If I don't even know if it exists. However I can dispute that The Bible is not based on fact and actual historical happenings.

A part of me believes god for the comfort that there is an afterlife. There is no certainty if there is a god or not and i cant answer these questions as i am only 13 and not a high priest!
