(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So here is my story and I'll try to make it short as no one likes to read long post Happy So I have an HP Dm4 for almost 2 years now and brought it from BestBuy with ADH protection 2 years. My laptop started to act up lately as in shutting off for no reason about every 1 or so and I've check everything from battery, power cord, and power settings with everything updated so I decided to take it to GeekSquad as they are in charge of the fixing Luckily I had a month left. About 1 week pass and I get a call saying it was a Software problem with no Hardware failures and told me since I do not have tech support I would have to pay an extra $195.

As anyone with common sense I told them no and took the laptop home instead dealing with the annoyance of it shutting off. 2 weeks later which was about 3 days ago my Laptop now turns on but only to show a blank screen and blinking Caps lock with my Wi-fi on. I looked at the HP site and it shows that my CPU needs to be replace by the blinking code every one second on the Caps lock. At my curiosity I wanted to see how low Geek Squad would stoop in blaming that it's a software problem just to get me to throw that $195 at them for commission. (This is why they push you to buy it as every extra they sale to you as in service becomes a Commission sale, I know this because my cousin use to work for Geek Squad and they would push him to meet certain sales and or repairs a month any extra would just be a bonus)

So I brought it to Geek Squad and after showing them what Protection I had I bet you would've guess by know what they would say. These are the guy exacts words
" It turns on but has a blinking caps lock light and solid Wi-Fi light (Which is the Num Lock if you hold FN With it) I think it could be a Software problem" Funny Right? :ha!: So holding back my laughter I told him
" Can you explain how is this a software problem if Windows doesn't boot Heck Hp doesn't boot it's just a blank screen with a blinking Caps lock" ( Which Hp Identify as CPU Failure and needs replacement and falls under the category as Hardware) I would believe if it was software problem if I had a blue screen of death but no nothing just a damn blank screen with my fan running and Caps lock blinking.

If only I could've recorded this you should've seen the look on his face as he started to freak out and then told me
"Oh or it could be hardware I'm not sure after we do our tests."
So I agreed and left it with them wanting to see what stunt they would pull next trying to get me to buy What I do not need. I've also read stories as they would go as far as to cause the damage them self in order to avoid the replacement and not honoring their ADH plan and twist stories as dropping a camera 2 feet would be consider as reckless and not cover ( Personal experience with an mp3 5 years ago when I accidentally dropped it on the floor (wood) and the screen was cracked no bad but a small crack across the screen which they would not replace as they told me it was on purpose and literally falsely accuse me of throwing it on the floor)

So What do ya think will Geek Squad try to screw me over and not replace or repair my laptop, or would they suck up their guts and face the truth.

First of all, I'd like to apologize for the experience you had at your local store. We definitely did not grow our organization to the size it is now by ripping people off, and most likely a local Agent made an honest mistake in the diagnostic of your system. Our Agents are not commission, and at Corporate we mandate that sales are not tracked against individual Agents in an effort to create the best possible environment for our Clients, where they feel they can trust us. For whatever reason, this is clearly not the current environment at your local store, and for that I apologize.

In regards to your computer it's pretty obvious to me, even based on the first description you gave, that it is a hardware problem that should be covered under your ADH Geek Squad Protection. I'm not sure what happened at the local store that lead them to anything other than this diagnostic, but I will be reaching out to them to attempt to correct the situation. You'll get a PM from me shortly asking for a bit more information so I can help get this resolved for you.

Obviously the local Agents dropped the ball here. Again, sorry for your experience and we will definitely get this resolved.

-Agent Patrick

I appreciate the help Patrick as I know you are one of the 10% out of 90% who would have to pick up the messes of others trying to fix their mistake and for that I thank you. I have dealt with them today and after talking to the manger we came to an agreement it was an hardware problem after I presented evidences proving it was.Now though I'm worry that they may do something in the service center trying to get me to buy Their tech support as around 4Pm today I got a call confirming they have my permission to ship out but after talking and confirming some stuff Which didn't do much I was ask if I have tech support and right there shocked me why would they ask me that question. I maybe quite paranoid or over my head for this old laptop but still I guess it's just me.

No worries! We're definitely glad to help. With 1500 Geek Squad locations world wide, sometimes stuff like this can happen. Not an excuse, but we definitely do our best to prevent it, and reach out to educate locations where issues occur to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Geek Squad City won't do anything that requires software repair or would be covered under Tech Support, they only perform hardware related repairs. If there was an issue caused by something that isn't covered by your plan, but because you have ADH even if they find liquid damage, it will get taken care of. The only thing you could get a quote for would be a data-recovery or data back-up, if you required it.

If they need to make a major repair, there is a chance it could come back from the service center without an operating system, which the store may need to install for you. This service is also covered under your GSP Plan, but they will most likely require the Operating System discs from your Manufacture, as we aren't allowed to store them at each Precinct.

Ultimately, there should be no additional cost to getting this back to 100% functional for you, and if you hear anything to the contrary of that, please let me know and I would be happy to investigate.

Thanks Jake!

Despite some of the occasional negative press, we actually are a pretty stellar repair organization and we really do try our best to ensure everyone is satisfied, 100% of the time. Just our main service center alone repairs almost 10,000 units a day, not counting the hundreds at each location that are repaired locally. We have entire teams at corporate dedicated to training new Agents, and a group of Agents here dedicated to be the life-line for the irreparable problems.

Occasionally, as seen here, shit goes wrong from time to time for our clients. My team gets that, and we always do our best to fix it and make it right as quickly as possible. There are always 2 sides to every story, and here are corporate we're never afraid to get involved if we have to. Smile

Great News I got my laptop back Partially fix >:< After they spent about 20 min finding my Laptop which they told me it did not came in yet but me receiving the call the day before saying it did. Close to 10 more min pass Finally they found it! They told me that they replaced my Motherboard and battery and when I got home last night USB Doesn't even work, only 1 does and it's the 3.0 USB port and it only partially works as when transferring files causes it to some how eject itself and only works with some USB devices. My other 2 USB 2.0 Doesn't even work I tried Uninstalling and updated the driver, updating the BIOS, Check if the port was clean which it was, Reinstall Window ( Which was a pain waiting for), reset the CMOS, Reset the Bios to default and to note I can't access the Advance menu on my HP Pavilion dm4 as it doesn't have that option unlock and I don't want to flash a custom one as it my void my warranty ADH Plan. Can Anyone Else help me out on this or should I just take it back to GeekSquad to deal with Again?

GeekSquad Why U No Test Device Before Giving it back to Customer! :yuno:

I've stereotyped all these sorts of things, I'll save myself some money and not sign up!
My cynicism also agrees that they are likely to damage it themselves just to get you to come back in for a costly repair when your cover runs out!
I also think car mechanics do that :( that's another story though!

Geek Squad sucks, they have low requirements for their techs so they might not even know what they're doing.

I figure that since they couldn't even find my laptop in the first place when it had already been there and worse of all there was only 4 to chose from trying to figure which one was mines. It's sad (Some) they lacked the basic knowledge to even read the name tag after spending 20-30 min finding it plus I was the only customer there so no blame could go though rushing "it" and I told them I had all the time in the world as well.

The only thing good about GeekSquad is that you can exploit their stupidity, which they have a bunch of.

Lol, most of them from where I live are those who went to my JC and got a certificate in Computer Science. (20 units of basic general knowledge + general education).

The real shit is 30-33 units and about 3 of our classes (9-12 units) covers all their information and much much more.

In my opinion I think it's just whoever hires them is cheap, They rather pay people with barely any knowledge about the field they are going to work for instead for people who actually went to school and earn a degree for these type of jobs which means the employer has to pay more out of their pockets and that they are too cheap to do that. Any ways Pichu you're lucky to at least have some people right for the job, Wish I could say the same here.
